What would be your ideal hook and line size setup for a texas rigged dropshot? I have a 6'10 medium light power extra fast action St Croix Bass x rod, along with a Bass x 7'1 medium power fast action rod.

I use the same hook exclusively.  it just works for me.  and I Texas rig 99% of the time since I just kinda plop the presentation anywhere.  

 

Owner Downshot offset hook.  usually in 1/0 size, but on the CA Delta or Clearlake, I up it to the 2/0.  a tiny pond near my home, I drop down to a #1.

 

line?  20lb braid, (because that is all I can find, or I would go lower) and 10Lb flouro leader.  nothing fancy.  I have started with 3/16 tungsten weights, but I did really well with the garden variety lead weight.  I'd argue I have more fish from the leads.

id use the medium rod. weight depends on depth but i use 1/4 alot. 15 pound braid usually to a 10 pound leader but sometimes 12. i use the gamakatsu g finesse or the owner cover shot.

I use a 7’0” medium/fast daiwa kage, 10lb fireline, 8lb leader, 1/0-2/0 hooks either owner cover shot or robo rebarbs, 3/16 pencil shaped tungsten weight 90% of the time, occasionally 1/4 or 3/8 when the wind dictates, great setup for 4-7” finesse worms rigged weedless.

This is another case of not overthinking it.  Both rods will work fine and the best choice will be your preference (I drop shot with ML & M rods).  The ideal hook will be personal preference…the Owner Down Shot referenced by @Darth-Baiter is a good hook for TR…the size of the bait can influence the size of the hook.  Line setup, again personal preference.  I’m a braid to fluoro guy but others like mono.  As a general rule for spinning, I stay around twice the braid test to the leader…I typically use either 15 or 20lb braid and almost always use 8lb fluoro.  Not a rule, just a preference as there is no correct or ideal answer.

I am fishing tomorrow.  theCA Delta.  I am tired of the bait keeper tab on my current dropshot rod.  I moved everything over to a 7'1" Med Light Dobyns.  I'll be fine.  

 

my favorite bait is the Zoom Z-drop worm in green pump.

• Use your Bass x 7'1 medium power fast action rod.
• 6lb YoZuri Hybrid line
• 1/0 Gamakatsu G-Finesse Swivel Shot

Simple. No extra knots. Less line twist.  Weedless, stealthy, and deadly.

Do you find this to be an issue with drop shots.  When drop shots first started gaining popularity, a swivel seemed a standard part of setups but I don’t see them used much anymore in our parts.  I haven’t used them in years and don’t notice twist.  I figured it was because I and most others are primarily braid to leader now.

Gamakatsu swivel shot 1, 1/0, or 2/0 depending on the bait. I use a G. Loomis NRX 821S with a Daiwa Emeraldas 2500 6lb Sufix Elite (FC would be best though).

Hook I use for weedless rigged drop shot is Owner #5133 Down Shot hook size 1/0 for 3”-4 1/2” and 2/0 for 5” to 6” finesse worms. 

6’10” MLF is good.

7 lb Sniper FC.

Skin hook the finesse worm.

I fish the TVA chain of lakes primarily. Would be it be smart to go with 15lb braid to a 10lb fluoro leader or just stick with the 8lb?

No reason to use braid with a leader for drop shot unless that is what you prefer. 

If you use the 7’1” Medium rod then a 10lb leader with 6” worms  2/0 hook would work.

I would use 10lb braid to 10lb fluoro on the ML and use 1/0 roboworm rebarb hook, 3/16 to 1/4 weight. 
 

On the M I would use 20lb braid to 15lb fluoro leader, 3/0 rebarb hook, 3/8 weight. Little bigger bait on this one. Like 7” roboworm.

Doesn’t the Delta have quite a bit of vegetation?  Have you ever tried to go heavy with a Bubba Shot?  If I’m not mistaken, I think the Delta may have been where it gained it’s popularity.  Others can correct me if I’m wrong.

 

Edit: some people call it a power shot…it’s Bubba in Texas.  Power shot down hear is a dead giveaway that you come from one of the lesser states ?.

The Delta is mostly heavy cover / reeds and weed mates but also some open water areas. Punching and Flipping became popular in the Delta but that wasn’t the OP’s question.

Thanks for reminding me of the OP’s question…I was making a comment about a heavy version of a drop shot.  Every site needs the posting police.

It depends where I will be fishing.  If I'm in open water I'll use a 1/0 EWG hook on 6# line.  If I'm going to be around cover I'll up the hook to a 2/0 EWG and fish it on 10# line.
