If I feel anything, I set the hook. Yes there are times when it's better to wait, but at the same time waiting might mean they already spit your lure so I'll take my chances.

Ya can't have a discussion on "T Rig Hookset time" & not mention early strike detection.

When fishing cedar trees , I have to set the hook quickly before the fish wraps me up but also have to make sure I'm setting the hook on a fish . I developed the Greg Hackney style . Put a little pressure on the fish to make sure something has it  then lay into her .

Let me put it like this. You feel something, you go to set the hook and get nothing. You cast back to the same spot and you feel a little vibration in the line, same thing happens again - nothing but air. This happens like five times, and you’re getting really agitated. Then one time you hesitate a second after the first line vibration and wait to feel weight on the line before you set the hook. This time you land a fish. You cast back to the same area and you feel a little line vibration. What are you going to do, set the hook or wait to feel the weight?

What are you going to do

Cut back on the coffee, get a less sensitive rod, or switch to mono...

So spotted bass do the bluegill tap tap tap?   There's a lake near me that's full of Spots. (Moss Lake, Shelby NC) I don't have much luck there, but always feel tap tap tap on my worms.  I set the hook and get nothing.  Next time I go there I'll chill for a little bit before almost flipping out of the boat setting the hook.  (I don't get cheated on hooksets)
