I tried a Rat-L-Trap and that worked. I'm trying a surface Rapala next. 

Also try that whopper plopper when paddling.

I almost did that yesterday morning, but wondered if it would be cuckoo crazy, but you suggesting it, I'm gonna try it! I love the way the blow up on that lure. I used it for the first time a few evenings ago and caught 17 on just it.

I have caught smallies & steelies dragging a Deps buzzjet behind the boat in 20-25 fow. 

Berkley Ficker shad 1/2oz size gets them good on the troll.

I tried trolling a suspending jerk bait and a Whopper Plopper. Both worked really well! Caught 33 fish. All largemouth and smallmouth except for one chain pickerel and two perch.

Have you ever fished with the Spoonplug? My son was given a complete set that has never been wet. I keep wanting to try them but haven't. 

If you dont have too much vegetation, dragging a heavy spinnerbait, kind of slow rolling it along the bottom can generate strikes. I have had some success this way when just drifting through some deeper areas. I know it is not trolling, but similar.

Ive had luck with original floating Rapalas across shallower flats before the weeds get up. Its sonething i’ll do moving from one spot to the other.

My problem is getting the speed right. When I'm cranking in a lure I go mostly by the feel of the lure, can't tell when paddling. By the looks of the rod tip it always looks like I'm going way too fast.

 

I did have some luck yesterday afternoon with a beetle spin. Had a few on while crossing the pond but as I crushed the barb I didn't land any. That was the 1st time trolling worked for me, well, sort of.

Try a paddle tail on a swim jig or weighted screw lock hook, some baits are very speed sensitive, and most paddle tails aren't.

The good old regular split back Rapala.

Yup, as a kid, I used to troll while rowing a small jon boat doing laps around a small lake in the Catskills with 2 rods, one was usually a #9 or #11 Rapala, and the other a spoon or spinner, caught pretty much everything that swam in that lake.
