I have previously inquired about strength but not in depth about action, now I am trying to narrow it down to both.  I have been told medium fast, medium moderate fast, and medium heavy moderate fast. What about medium moderate? I have medium heavy moderate fast, been told it was too much for trebles and I would lose fish. Thanks!

MH, MF. You should be fine. If you’re tearing trebles out on that, switch to mono or hybrid, or stop pulling so darn hard. Don’t think, just throw.

Medium MF, but again, a rod that fishes that way, not necessarily one that is labeled that way.

I use my Fury 705CB, which is a MH/MF. I have no complaints.

Are St Croix Mojo Bass underrated or overrated in power?

I use the same rod for whoppers, spooks and medium-deep crankbaits.  I’ve been very happy with it.

Yep.  And I wouldn't worry about losing fish until it actually becomes a habit. They don't seem to throw it much at all . Just crank them straight to the boat . Don't let them swim around with it.

It's not a bait your going to throw 12 months a year , at least not around here so I wouldn't buy a rod just for throwing that bait. Any rod you throw your other topwater baits on will be fine.

Did whoever tell you this know you're spooled with 12 lb mono? If you're sticking with 12 lb mono, then don't worry about it, because it's very unlikely you'll have an issue with losing fish, even if using a fast MH + rod. 12 lb mono stretches like crazy. Adjust your drag, don't swing on the WP like it's a frog in slop, and you'll be just fine. No matter who you are, you're going to lose fish once in a while. This isn't always because of less than perfect gear for a given bait.

Ok, that makes sense, I like more line less rod, but while it doesn't "stretch like crazy" BG was designed to stretch early in the applied force curb to prevent breakage from surging fish, N/A for LMB obviously.

    For me it is more of a weight thing when matching a rod to a lure. A WP 90 weighs in at 1/2 oz. It's on the top side of weight range for a M rod and middle to bottom of the range for a MH. Your using mono which has some forgiveness with stretching and it floats. I'd think a medium in a fast action would be good or a MH in a moderate action would work well too. Medium in moderate might be too bendy for my taste. 

    Action ratings between rods and even between different models in the same brands. I find the Dobyn's Sierra to be on the softer side action wise for the rating.  St. Croix Mojo bass is a stiffer rod for the same rating IMHO. It is a trial and error thing for me until I find something that casts well, balances well and allows me good control of the fish after it's hooked. 

     If I'm throwing a plopper it is close to heavy cover, along reeds or over submerged grass. I want some backbone when I hook a fish that is liable to do it's best to bury itself in the closest pile of the above. For me the answer is a Medium Heavy rod and mono line (Sunline Shooter Defier Armillo 13#).

Me?  i do it all wrong.  Dobyns Sierra 734.  my line is 14lb flouro which i think is too light.  on my far casts it's not ideal to jam those hooks home.  but i somehow get it done.  

 

i dont want to own too many rods.  it causes me some anxiety.  it's weird, i know.

I use a Mojo MHMF "Spinnerbait" rod for throwing my WP 90s. I'm not a fan of the other Mojo rods I've held or tried. They always felt heavy to me, but I do really like that one. It has a nice soft tip thats a little slower. It casts well and has enough give to fish trebles.

 

I actually have two of them. One throws the WP90 with 15lb mono. The other is used for lighter Jackhammers and Thundercrickets and I really like it. You can throw those 1/4 - 3/8 lures well and you can feel everything that blade is doing without your hand going numb by the end of the day.
