Geecrack Bellows Gill

Featured Replies

A local shop carries the Geecrack baits and I'm inexplicably fascinated by the Bellows Gill.  I bought some 2.8", thinking smallmouth with a small jig head or on a dropshot.  I’d like to buy some bigger ones, but I didn’t want to go crazy right out of the gate. lol

Is anyone using these baits?  How are you rigging them and how are they performing?

I use the 3.8 as a Texas-rig around cover. They work great, especially around pressured fish that have seen a lot of presentations. The biggest advantage with the Bellows is it’s unique profile. I have fished through an area that holds fish and not catch anything - go back with the Bellows and catch 2-3.  I don’t think color matters, it’s the profile. They smell like Fritos, maybe fish like those too...

One caveat - I use them very sparingly at approx $2 per plastic. They don’t last long... maybe 2 fish before they get torn up.

They are a good back up plan to have when the bite is slow - -

Do you rig them vertically or horizontal?

I use them on a free rig with a light wire hook so they have a slower fall. I’ve had some absolutely viscous strikes fishing them that way.

Same here. I’ve had my best luck targeting vertical cover like stick ups or docks.

The Texas rig pins the bait horizontally... it’s a subtle action and really only the tip of the tail moves much. But there is something about the profile they hit hard. Slower actions seem to work best. Used it on a split shot only once but same results.

Great on the tungsten keitech football jigheads.  If you smell closely you can get a wif of Cap'n Crunch with the Fritos smell.  Bellows Craw is $$$$$$$ on a football jig.

I like to rig them weightless on 3/0 Ewg, horizontally. Basically fish it like a senko.

That was my biggest surprise while rigging and fishing it. Never smelled any soft plastics even remotely close to this. I only threw it for about 15 minutes on a free rig during a slow bite, and I'm looking forward to putting some more time in with the bait next time out. Seems to have a lot of potential.

I rig the 2.8 on a free rig with a 2/0 EWG or I use them as a jig trailer. The 3.8 has been favorite. I rig it either weightless or as a free rig with a 3/0 EWG. Dark Matter has been my favorite color.

I bought a pack of these last week in the 3.8 size, but haven't fished them yet. I did weigh them and was shocked to see they came in at 9/16oz by themselves. Definitely heavier than you standard Senko.

Lot more there than on a senko.

I threw one for a couple of days and caught one fish.  It got destroyed by the one fish as well.  I lost others just skipping docks and pulling through weeds.  Probably won't invest in anymore.

i have two bags.  i think mine are the tiny ones.  i waited with bated breath for something to suck in the tiny halibut looking thing.  NOTHING.

I went through two bags this past Saturday and Sunday at two different lakes. How are you fishing them? Are you using braid? Braid from what I have seen will cause the bait to jerk sideways and turn around rather than pop up and float down.
