Physical beat down from fishing. Punch fishing. ??

Featured Replies

I always tell anyone in person looking for a rod that requires a lot of user input to invest their money in those sticks.

That's why my jerkbait, topwater, frog, and pitching and flipping stick cost two to three times as much as some of my other rods.  I need them to be light and balanced, I'm moving them often.

i'll watch this later!!!  thanks.  my arm is back to normal this morning.  i will see what i am doing wrong, and mitigate for future punch adventures.  i was holding various rods in my garage to see what i could have done different.  i think i was just so excited, i let all thoughts to proper form and technique go out the window.

You’ll get it

Just practice, ask questions and practice more.

I  can flip/pitch all day long.  punching is a different animal altogether.

my buddy never has the pedestals.  we stand for 10 hours.  only sit down time is when we are under boat power.  :D.  I might ask him to bring a pedestal next time for me.

Learning how to properly utilize a pedestal seat was an absolute game changer for me as far as how my body feels after a long day on the water. I use it more as a third leg for support when I'm standing. It takes some of the weight off your legs and back and really makes a huge difference in choppy water. For years I rarely bothered with it because I used to try to sit on it and only last year realized they're better used as support. Even gives you something to put your hand on when a rogue wave or whatever comes along. Night and day difference in how I feel the next say.

That would be my choice in the microgude series since you don't need a leader when punching.

fishing jerkbaits

This definitely wears on a guy.  Constantly snapping a rod can and does get tiring.

Ya'll clearly have never done much muskie fishing either.  Try slinging 15 inch lures with 8 foot heavy action rods for days on end without even a follow.  Its extremely physically and mentally draining.

that looks brutal.

not to hyjack myself.  i punch a creature bait.  using my my last stash of Yum Bad Mamas, and moving on to the Palmetto bug by Zman.

i saw a bunch of older guys punching what looked like a 7" Senko worm.  it looked interesting.

You are correct, no way I would ever do that haha. I’ve been on trips with buddies targeting Muskie, I’m usually catching white bass on a jig within a couple hours
