Co-Polymer on Spinning Reels

Featured Replies

have a question about line for a spinning reel.  I will not use the braid to fluro as not a fan of that.  I was wondering if anyone had used a co-polymer like p line c21, cx, cxx on a spinning reel ? max size is 8lb.  will be used for drop shot, ned rig, shake head, stuff like that.  Or has anyone used straight fluro 8lb or less on a spinning reel for this ?  Looking for ideas...

I have fished CXX, but it has a ton of memory. Try #6 which is about 8# breaking strength.

Give #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid a try, too. I like Seaguar Tatsu #6, but if you want to try fluorocarbon

at a lower cost, Seaguar InvizX .

6lb Invizx or 6lb Sunline Sniper Invisible have been my favorite.  I like Tatsu as well but it wasn't as soft as Invizx. I wouldn't use copoly on spinning gear.

I have fished both, cxx is more abrasion resistant, c21 is less abrasion resistant but is thinner and behaves betteron spool. Maxima and sunline I really like, diameters are different, I get 8lb sunline, 6lb maxima

I use 4 lb CXX on some smaller spinning reels with really good results. It is a very tough line for 4lb test.

I use Maxima Ultra Green 5# copoly line on my finesse spinning reels, small diameter high knot strength and abrasion resistance.

P-line isn’t the only co-polymer game in town. McCoys and Izorline are 2 others that I’m familiar with and I currently use 8 & 10 lb Izorline xxx on my spinning reels, 15lb on baitcasters. Works as well as anything IMO. Nothing wrong with flouro unless you’re me - I just don’t mess with it much. Mostly braid on baitcasters and mono on spinning gear - that’s it.

I have fished 6lb p line cx with good results.  Currently using 4lb Yo Zuri Hybrid. It works well on spinning reels.

I run 4# YZH on a 1000 reel - my ML/MF rig

You could run 6# on a 2000/2500 reel with no issues

8# I'd want a 3000 or 4000 reel for.

Yes. I have 4lb on a 2000 reel. I used old mono as backing. Good stuff so far.

I use 4/6 pound P-line cx-premium on my crappie/white bass setups with no issues.  Also have a few older Plueger Supremes that came with the spare spools that I have 6/8 pound Sunline Sniper on them for when I want to go straight fluoro.

The key to successfully using Co-Poly , FC or Mono on a spinning reel (3000 size or smaller) without line twist : Do not go over .010" / 25mm line diameter (don't pay attention to lb. weight as line diameter varies between all manufacturers) . Also spool a spinning reel with the line coming from the bottom of the line spool (I use a pencil through a small box and apply line tension while holding a rag as I spool the line on a spinning reel) . Always close the bail by hand manually after a cast and pull out the last few inches of loose line to avoid line loops before winding. Follow these brief suggestions and you should not have any trouble with co-poly on a spinning reel .
