License holders - fishing, hunting, driving, etc

Hi all

in PA when I lived there a hunting license was an odd size and we had big holders with heavy safety pins. A fishing license was similar. Having moved to NJ, we have the green 3.5”x2.5” printed ones on a big roll. I still haven’t found a holder that fits them and has a small safety pin to clip onto my hat (we have to display here).

anyone have a favorite holder?  I actually want one for hunting that I can pin on my hat like a fishing license. I’m minimizing my archery setup and putting it on my hat would

be ideal.

Yeah my phone.   Here in Tennessee they have a phone app that stores all your licenses.   You can also print them.

we can print at home and I carry duplicates in the truck and elsewhere. However we have to display them visibly while hunting or fishing. The green printed ones are also waterproof so if they get damp it doesn’t really hurt them. I just need something to hold it

We can do that for licenses that don't include a site tag here.  For example, when deer hunting you need the physical license w/ tag and you are required to tag the animal on site before hauling it out.  Same with a wild turkey, bear, etc.  If you don't need a tag, then the phone thing is acceptable here.

I have the GA DNR app on my phone if I need to produce my fishing license. I used to keep a hard copy in my wallet as well, but got rid of it the last time I cleaned out my wallet.

Tennessee has added tagging to the app as well.  You just tag the animal on your phone before you move it.  You get a confirmation number even if you don’t have cell coverage.

I could see a certain portion of the hunting population having trouble with this kind of technology.  My own Father is 72 and is borderline handicapped when its comes to electronic technology like this.  There's no way he could figure out how to electronically tag a deer with his phone.

I assume paper tags are still available. That said I’d love to have an app like that here. We have to report deer through the online system anyway (or call).

Yes paper tags are still available which have to be entered online by midnight or you can go to a checkin location.   The phone is a much easier solution for everyone involved.

That would be nice.

now back to the original question, anyone have a good holder that works in places where you have to carry and display?

in my limited experience.  Oklahoma has it right.  for a few bucks, i opt for the hard card fishing license.  it is the same size as a credit card so i just goes into my wallet.

every other state is different.  oddly, or coincidentally, the most annoying is my home state of California.  it comes on a rolled paper.  my fishing tag is about 4" wide and maybe 18" long with sections i get to cut off and discard.  storing it is stupid.  i already lost mine.  i have a copy on my Phone which is good enough to keep me out of wilderness jail.

NM. lets me print it on 8x11 which is worn out in about a week.

original question?  i use a ziploc type ID card holder for all my tags.  i fold them into submission so they fit.

We do too.  Within 48 hours of the kill.  Basically anything that requires a tag.  Deer, wild turkey, bear, etc.

Now that’s pretty cool.
