Spinnerbait vs chatterbait in the fall

Featured Replies

It seems to me the chatter bait put preforms a spinner bait in the fall almost always does anyone else experience this? If so any idea why it might?

I don't fish the two baits the same way or in the same places. so to me it's more complicated. I can't really draw a comparison, but I almost always throw a spinnerbait before I pick up a chatter bait.

I do well with both year round.  The chatterbait can generally be reeled in at a slower rate and deeper than a spinnerbait so I have found it to be slightly better in colder water.  I've had days when they won't touch one or the other though, so its worth keeping both of them in your arsenal.

Locally, I think the fish have seen a chatterbait a lot in recent years and not as many spinnerbaits.  So on some pressured waters, the spinnerbait has made a comeback with more bites.  Just last week I won a small work-related derby using a spinnerbait.  I also tried a similarly-colored chatterbait but that was not nearly as effective so I went back to the spinnerbait.

I know one thing.  The pike don't care lol.  They're viciously attacking pretty much any moving lure right now.

Plus they're a handy onboard snack.

You can use Vienna Sausages if you want to go finesse.

Spinnerbaits are fantastic this time of year for me, I struggled with spinnerbaits for years until I finally figured out that they do well for me in cooler water. Not freezing water but like 50-70 degree water I’m guessing.

Baitfish+semiclearwater +wood=spinnerbait

Muddied water+grass+bluegill=chatterbait

Clear water+heavygrass+wood+ bluegill=swimming a jig

This is over generalized, and take it with a truckload fullof salt because the exception is many times equally common to the rule, expecially in bass fishing.

Just ask about winter topwater fishing over 50 feet of water in 38 degree water temperature

Struggle with spinnerbaits in hot water too. Middle of the summer is the hardest for me. I think I could get better by using faster spinnerbaits meant to run deeper in heat of summer.

I do well with heavy spinnerbaits with under sized blades, slow rolled deep in summer. Always bumping bottom.

Sit in the corner until you're ready to apologize to me for this.
