JDM Zillion ok for a Flash Mob Jr / A-rig ?

Featured Replies

I have all my gear to try an A-rig but need to select a reel. I have a new Zillion 1000 Sv TW ( 6:3:1 )

will that handle it ok - at least to try and see if I like this thing ? Or do I need to buy a heavy duty reel ?

The reel is fine.

I used mine for a little while to throw A-Rigs and 5-6" bigger swimbaits.   Worked just fine.

In an ideal world I would step up to the Zillion TW HD, or Tatula 200/300

Awesome… Thank you guys. Appreciate your experience.

It will be just fine.  Just remember it has the shorter handles so a little lower gear ratio might be better for you cranking big baits like that.

1. Rod, 2. Line type/dia., 3. Aluminum frame reel with enough line capacity for the line and balance with the rod.

The A-rig isn't a high resistance bait unless you're burning it. Any decent quality casting reel is fine. Whatever gear ratio that floats your boat is also fine. I throw it on a 7 speed.

Exactly. Except being heavy, A-rig is not that hard to wind in. Chatterbait, spinnerbait, deepdive crankbaits, these are the ones need serious winding power and heavy duty gears IMO.

JDM Zillion has a aluminum primary gear the US is brass gear.

I would make sure the gear is properly lubricated when casting heavier lures like the A-rigs.
