I am continuing to be humbled by my area lakes. Yesterday on Nickajack Lake, one of the Tennessee River chain impoundments, I fished hard in the high muddy water.  30 MPH wind gusts made it difficult, and I only caught one dink. There was floating grass in the muddy water everywhere. There was hardly a retrieve that wasn't fouled. If I didn't love fishing so much, I would hate it! Water still under 50 deg. Last year spoiled me because I usually catch fish every trip with some river trips bring 40 or better. I think the gods of the river are paying me back for my arrogance!

Kudos to you Bob, I wouldn't have even gone and fished those conditions.

Everything I've read and experienced first hand tells me that you had a tough go because of the conditions, not the angler.

Muddy cold water that is up, with 30mph winds......that one dink is equivelent to a DD ?

I was able to fool a pounder but that was it.

Bob, if I must, I'll tell you ten times: That was NO mere "pounder." That was, after DOD (Degree of Difficulty) adjustments, a DD!

BTW, if you go fishing in a canoe in a Category 5 hurricane and catch an 8-inch bass, you will have caught the new World Record, after the DOD adjustment.

Likewise, the guy who catches a "DD" in a boat that bristles with more electronics than an Aegis-class cruiser, after the DOD adjustment, has caught a two-to-three-pounder.

To set the Universe Record for bass, you have to fish from a kayak in Class V rapids in a Category 5 hurricane during a 9.6 earthquake. Whatever you catch will be the new Universe Record for bass, even if it's a shiner.

I shouldn't have gone under those conditions but us fishbrains do things like that. When you look forward to Sunday's all week, it is difficult to be talked out of it. Hopefully I can start to get out Wednesdays after lunch soon. The mini-chatterbait put lots of vibrations in the water and allowed the little fella to find me.....either that or I snagged him in the lips by accident.

Oh, I know, I know. I once told the story of pedaling to catch bass in the spring. In the snow. And last fall, I wanted to fish ONE MORE TIME, so I launched in the dark in a howling wind. Then my headlamp died. So, I was bobbing in the dark, trying to stay close enough to the shoreline to survive if I tipped, but not so close that I'd become tangled in the bristling shrubs. So, yeah, I know. I did catch two bass in the dark. Both DDs after the DOD adjustments.

That's why you're a real one Bob, only true Bassheads will go through all the effort to go fish during a time they know fish won't be biting.......it's madness, but you have to admire it ?
