Live bait coolers...

Featured Replies

So this year with my focus going more multi species instead of strictly bass I'm planning on doing some live bait fishing. Minnows, chubs, crawfish, crawlers and even leeches will likely be on the line. I'm thinking of picking up a nice aerated bait cooler. Any recommendations?

The Engel ones with built in aerators are popular here in the winter for minnows.

While waiting for spring to get here, I saw on TV an ad for a rechargable aerator for a minnow bucket.  Nice little tool but they start at 50 bucks and from what I have found over the years is the little plastic pumps are pretty lousy, mostly junk.  I went thru a number of these over the years even with warranty replacements was hard pressed to get a full years use from one.  Then the light when on in my brain, I picked up a 110v inverter, it works off a 12v dc battery and makes 110 house current.  These can be had for under 20 bucks at Target, Walmart etc.  Then a cheap plug in the wall air bubble aerator for an aquarium, these are well under 10 bucks.  These cheap little aerators are designed to draw very little power, and run forever. I use a cigarete lighter socket on a cord with battery clips to attach to my house battery.  Made this little unit about 12 years ago and it has been flawless since!  Best part is they are quiet, and produce far more aeration than any other battery powered pump I have ever used. I had one of those Frabil minnow buckets (about 5 gallons) but the pumps were useless.  The little aquarium pump fit nicely in the space where the batteries went with just a power cord sticking out.  Plug into the inverter and bubbles, lots of them !!!  Been out all day and hardly used any battery power...best aeration system ever and well velow the cost of cheap disposable units.  Thought some of you might be interested,........
