I didn’t see the Ehler m/mh rod that I have listed in the new models.

Or the M/F spinning rod. Basically both of the Tatula Elites I have...

I agree!   I really like a black stealth fighter look the best.  I don’t like any thread designs or anything.  Just simple and get the job done well.  I don’t mind the Tatula Elites etc, but agree that bright neon rods are no bueno.   I don’t want to draw attention when I set the hook.  I like to stay more incognito.

The Savage Gear Black Ops rods are a thing of beauty. Pictures don't really do it justice. Awesome rods to boot.

Yet. I bet they fill in some gaps in the coming year

I have the 7'1 MH and it has a nice tip on it but then shuts down real quickly. Versatile rod but I mostly throw swim jigs on it. Retails for $300 but I got it last year on sale for like $170.

For $170 it seems like a no brained.  I was just looking at them and they seem to get rated well.  If I see them on sale, I might grab one.

Yeah I doubt I would've paid $300, mostly because SG is still quite new in the rod industry. To be honest I never gave them much thought until I saw Matt (Tactical Bassin) recommend it and then saw the big sale on TW.

I agree.  You don’t hear much about them , but I like the look, hidden threads on the reel seat, and the reviews.  Hopefully time is kind for them and they get it going.  Thanks for the heads up.

These are my favorite moving bait rods (except chatterbaits) anything in the "R" action built on carbon fiber feels just right to me. Not a glass fan.

I did read somewhere that the rods are lighter than the old models, I wonder if they changed the SVF composition?

Same. I don’t fart around with my fish. Don’t need a noodle.

So what's the main difference between these and the previous model? Just the new reel seat? I wonder how much lighter that actually makes the rod.

They claim 15%. I have a Seth Feider JB rod on the way.

You have the old model as well, yeah? Can you list both their weights when you get it (if you have a scale)? Thanks!

I got to handle a bunch of models recently. The black reel seat really makes them look sharp.

I wasn't a fan of the shiny silver reel seats, The new ones are a darker, more of a grey than silver. All the rods I handled felt very good, crisp, and balanced. Even the grips are darker.

Over all I really liked them. The jerk bait rod was a real standout. I don't need one, but if I did I would get it. The models with cork grips, look the best to me.

Everyone lies about how much lighter they are. So, new reel seat, same guide train? Anything else different ?

I ended up ordering the new model of the 7' med-light/regular Howell casting rod. I already had the same model in the previous line.

Right away out of the tube I could tell how much lighter it felt. I weighed both rods. Old version weighs in at 4.95 oz. which is quite heavy for a 7' med-light. The new version weighs only 4.10 oz. I knew the reel seats on the new one's changed, but wasn't expecting the handle to change on this model. The older version has a full handle, where as the new model has split grip (which I like much better for a rod this size where I likely won't be casting with 2 hands). This obviously contributes to the lighter weight.

Cosmetically I think it looks much nicer. I don't mind the old ones, but the darker gray/silver of the new one's are an improvement IMO. The black (it's almost a chrome/black if that makes sense) reel seat is a nice touch as well over the previous model. The seat is also thinner as you can see in the pics.

I'll definitely be selling the older version now. At the same price, the new model is clearly a no-brainer IMO. Granted I did get the older version at a really good price.

There have been photos of them in the pros boats. I will definitely have to get a couple if they aren't over $250

Jedi, the ones I've seen are between 189.00 and 219.00 online, when I got my Zillion today, the Elites were 189.00 but no Med lites, salesman said drop shotting is very popular! I got my Zillion for 199.00 clearance from 329.00
