He's in a similar position to you in that they live out of their 50' trailer (house on wheels). They have maintained the house they own in PA so that their son can use the PA cyber schooling no matter where they are. Similar for bank statements and drivers licenses. They do everything with online banking/billpay/registrations so very little need for physical anything. If you're deciding on where to settle, I would advise against jersey if you have a choice, especially if you plan to own a house. Property tax is incredible here. If you can be just across the border in PA you'll save $15-20k per year. The boat safety courses are valid for all states and lots of states require them now. Its not hard. I did the online training and practice tests in the week leading up to the proctored exam. Booking into the exam is the hardest bit since a lot of them get booked up this time of year and they don't run as many into the spring/summer. Search around for a convenient date and just get it booked. Yeah, I grew up here in NJ, don't plan on settling back here. When I first moved to MT many years ago, one of my friends was complaining his property taxes went up. I asked him how much they were. He was complaining about $2600 on a new construction $350k house. Previously in NJ I had been paying $11k on a 45 year old ranch valued at $230k. Things haven't gotten any better here in the past 20 years. Were I single, I'd head back out west to MT or WY but I'm married and the wife would like to stick towards the east. Looking at KY, TN, WV, and NC. She wants 'some' property and access to water. I want to be able to shoot 1000 yards off my back deck. 29 minutes ago, Deleted account said: Let your wife drive the boat... Yup, she grew up on Isle of Palms near Charleston SC and has been launching and driving boats since she was 8. She'll get to drive the boat should we ever get one bigger than a kayak and is my go to when trailers need to be backed up and positioned quickly. If I have time, I like to practice and try myself, but she cannot be around as my attempts drive her nuts and she has no patience with me at all. Super User casts_by_fly Posted March 6 Super User Share Posted March 6 Here's a pretty good and simple drawing. returning from sea (i.e. heading upstream), keep the red on your right and the green to your left and you're fine. As Alan Jackson said, "keep it between the navigational beacons"

LOL, that's a thing in the mid Atlantic and North East, my brother and a few of our buds have daughters that have been fishing and boating from day one. The new beaus trying to mansplain fishing and boating to them is priceless.
airshot
Here in Ohio we use the term going from a large body of water to a river or smaller body of water for the red right returning rules. Largest body of water in the main point there. My grandkids wanted to drive my boat so when they reached 12 years of age they took the boat safety course, I did as well so they wouldn't feel out of place. Actually learned a few things and also showed the instructers a few things....after 60 plus years of boating I guess I learned a few things...actually it was fun and afterwards the grandkids and I would test each other while out boating...worthwhile event !!
