I’ve been a Shimano guy for some time. I’ve heard great things about the Tatulas, and have really just never given them an opportunity. I got a steal on a Daiwa Tatula CT 100, and couldn’t pass it up. Strung it up, slapped it on a Dobyns Fury, and took it out this afternoon. Got it dial it quicker than I was think I would, and was really enjoying it. Until my first backlash.
 

Pulled out the nest, and proceeded to cast again. Second cast afterwards, another backlash, while pulling this one out; I noticed the brake dial had moved on me. Was set at 8, and was currently sitting on 4. So I set it back to 8, and enjoyed backlash free fishing for approximately 5 minutes. 
 

Then, backlash! Pulled it out, and brake dial was sitting on 3. WTH!?! Walked to the truck, and decided to tighten the screw in the middle of the dial. My thought was maybe it was loose from the factory. There wasn’t much to tighten. The little I snugged it seemed to help, but did not fix the problem. So I snugged it a bit more. Seemed to help, but the dial was still slipping on me.

 

Did I get a defective reel? It’s brand new. Am I moving the dial with my finger and not realizing it? Anyone ever have this issue before with these reels? I’ve search online, and can’t seem to find anything that resembles this problem. 
 

the reel is about to be returned if I can’t fix it. Which is a shame, cause other than that it’s been a joy to throw!

Does it click? If it doesn't there's a problem. If it does, you're moving it with your grasp.

the brake dial protrudes a bit and isn't as recessed as the zillion and steez and makes it vulnerable to rotating the dial while palming the reel. This dial isn't as easy to turn by just looking at it but it's more difficult to turn than the OG zillion. There's an indent behind the brake dial that locks it in and makes the audile click if working correctly.  If that isn't the case, you can snug up the set screw or return it. 

Not sure im following. It clicks when I purposely adjust it from one setting to the next. But when casting and retrieving , I don’t notice it clicking.

Several posters on this forum have mentioned it, but I have a bunch of Daiwas and have never done it once. Who knows how.

Many people palm the reel in such a way they unknowingly are adjusting it. I don't have that problem but I have always used Daiwa...

I had same issue with SV105 it was the brake click spring. It will single click like you mention but when it slipped no noise. You have to go in and fix/adjust that "spring"  key#6

So how do you fix the spring? Is it something that must be replaced? 

You can easily hear and feel the detent click. Yours is defective or the spring clip (#6) is missing.

I have my Tatulas set to 8 too.  I finally figured out that I was turning the brake dial while palming the reel.  I started holding the rod by the handle and haven't had any more problems with it.

Mine somehow wasnt aligned properly if memory is correct its been a number of years. I didnt replace mine just reset it in position think moved it in closer. But once realigned its worked fine.  

It's how you palm the reel.  With 3 fingers in front of the trigger palming you can rub the dial on the tatula 150/200 and 100 ct reels if you place your pointer finger on the rod blank or wrap it around the reel front when palming.  Move that finger down with the others and this will make the problem go away.  You can also palm with only two fingers in front of the trigger like the lefties do.

Just to follow up. Got it back out tonight just to test out the palming theory. That solved my issues. Also hooked this fish as an added bonus too

It's an old issue these reels have.  The tatula was the 1st reel to use the flipping style t wing.  I'm guessing they couldn't recess the dial into the side plate and offer a cutout to touch the dial like older reels due to having to accommodate the t wing traversing to the non handle side.  Their solution appeared to be to move the dial flush with the side plate and then make the very outer edge knurled.  You end up with a rough circle sticking out of the side plate vs the old style recessed dial with beveled smooth edges like the old zillion seen here: 

 

The issue still persists to this day on the tatula 150/200 and tatula/fuego ct reels because they use the same side plate or even are the same reel as the old 2013 tatula and 2016 tatula ct.  Other reels have gotten an update like the catalina tw, old zillion hd and the newest reels use a dial on the bottom of the side plate.

 

This new style dial creates a separate issue for guys casting the reel while in a palming grip as they can bump the dial in the new location when casting.  Ironically these were the same people that never had an issue with the old dial because they typically don't palm with 3 fingers in front of the trigger.  Daiwa made sure to make a dial just to upset them too.

On the 3 Fuegos I have you really have to be intentional about moving it. I end up using my nail vs finger half the time.

It is possible to change the dial by palming it, but I've never gone more than 2 clicks and it's rare I even get one. It's not a super easy dial to turn and going from 8 to 3 makes me think yours might be defective.
