Bought a new rod today

Featured Replies

Tonight I bought a Lews American Hero tier 1 7’0-1 Med Hvy casting rod to go with the Lews KVD reel. Not sure how I’m going to rig it just yet, Any suggestions?

Reel gear ratio?

You can probably do pretty much anything with that combo.

You have any holes in your arsenal? A 7-7'1 MH is very universal.

Did you get it from TW? Right now you get a $50 gift card if you buy that rod from them.

@MN FisherThe gear ratio is 6,2:1

Like stated, a MH/F rod is pretty universal. While it's slow for how I fish...bottom contact is probably where I'd slot that one in. T-Rigs, Jigs, Tokyo/Jika in moderate to light cover.

15#-17# FC or 30#-40# braid with 17#-20# FC leader.

Well since its a 6.2 you cant throw plastics or jigs.  The 2 fish a year that you may or may not lose when they charge out of cover before you set the hook should motivate you to pigeon hole certain ratios to certain techniques.

I would think the line you put on the reel would dictate what lures you would use more than anything as that combo is about a versatile as they come.
