Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?

Featured Replies

Your not being lazy your being smart, loading on a trailer is much easier,I have the same hf trailer with plywood and carpet, just remember once on the trailer if battery and or trolling motor is in the back tie the front of the boat down or it will pull a wheelie when you pull it out of the water,I've had mine since 2013 and love it,have taken on some major waves from the pretend to be bass pros in their high dollar boats, kinda scary but have never had a issue.....enjoy the little boat, no gas or oil to worry about, gets you in skinny water, and myself and gf have caught plenty of fish out of it

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

Thanks for the wheelie advice. I would have probably found  that out the hard way!

Curious what size bodies of water you guys use your boats on.

10 to 3100 acres

Bass Hunter Boats are made about an hour from where I live. I drove down today to check them out. The first boat I looked at was the Bass Hunter 120. It had a small dent in the top of one of the rails. It was purely cosmetic and not even that bad. The boat was brand new, never in the water. They gave me a $450 discount! I got the millennium chairs with the aluminum adjustable bases. I’m stoked! This is a great boat! My dad and I fished for years out of an 8’ sun dolphin. This is an upgrade for sure. That extra 2’ makes a huge difference. Now it’s time to customize it. Proud to join the ranks of the mini bass boat anglers!

Dr Big Dog, I bought the exact same boat as you last summer. They had advertised a "scratch and dent sale" on Craigslist and I drove up (from Clarke Co.) and bought one. I love mine. One suggestion I'd highly recommend is a dolly of some sort to move/ launch the boat. This sucker is heavy! I made one from a scrap 2 X 8 and some pneumatic casters from Harbour Freight. Kinda wish I would have sprung for the Millenium seats too.

I bought the dolly they make to go with it.

Good deal. I've often wondered why they didn't put the wheels on the 120 (and handles on the side) like the Bass Baby has.

Any ideas on seat bracket mods for the pelican bass raider ? I use the standard aluminum brackets that come with the boat .  I am a big guy and I don’t know how much I trust the aluminum brackets .

I attached a 2 x 6 the width of the bracket to sturdy it up. I also like the extra height.

You got a photo of it ?

Not a Raider but same kind of bracket

So far, 10-50 acres, and calmer fingers of the Savannah River down here. Congrats on the new toy.

I used a Scotty mount bracket to mount the transducer. I used the existing bolt holding the transom plate. You can also see the scupper hole I added. I used a 3/4” thru hull fitting and 5200 to seal it. This allows me to leave the boat in the water. For the floor I used 3/8” ply wood, I glued down anti-fatigue mat from Harbor freight, trimmed the edges with a razor blade, then covered it with outdoor carpet from Lowe’s. I mounted the Garmin bracket to the floor, and added a Bigfoot Switch to control the 32ld trolling motor mounted up front. BC23D15E-D9AB-44E6-B09A-5928B6A0ACE4.jpeg.f976052d56be2d9dc7124bf32fe913b3.jpeg

I haven't installed my bigfoot switch yet. Have you had a chance to really try it out?

I added a 5" riser to the original bracket on mine, and it was starting to sag. I have talked to this guy multiple times about making a seat frame that was 5in taller, since he offers "engineering services",but he wont do it.

Being just a few inches higher makes so much difference, that Im going to have a welder just make me some. Ill post pics when I get them.

I’ve had a Bigfoot switch on my Pond Prowler the past 3 years and I can easily say it’s the best thing I’ve added to it, I can’t imagine fishing without it. The bad thing is they only last about a year if that long. I just bought my third replacement one last week.

I highly recommend the Bigfoot switch. I’ve been using them for 25 years. I will say their not as good as they used to be. The first one I had was on my first “bass” fishing set up. It lasted well over 5 years till I sold the boat.

The control you gain by installing it is hard to beat, with out going to a foot control motor. I normally leave my TM on 1 or 2 depending on the wind and battery state. Just tap the switch, instant power. I’m a big guy, 270ish. I run my motor up front, battery in back, and I sit slightly aft of center. This puts the stern deeper so I don’t need a rudder. I use 2 shop vac extension tubes to extend the motor handle. Works great and way cheaper than a $35 extension handle!

Here’s my setup for the backyard pond. Only difference from when I travel is the addition on a throw cushion, anchor(10 lb mushroom), and life vest. Notice the “shop vac” tube motor handle extension. I had one on hand already. I just bought the second. $6.47 a piece at Lowe’s. The fit the handle of my tm well enough to stay attached and allow me to change speeds.  0ECBB2AC-EA07-4E89-93F8-4A0225174A65.jpeg.ae879dce2e97c7310afc96127e1a02a9.jpeg49F085D7-0B98-404E-9F06-377C3A0CBD52.jpeg.c070975fffdfb9456fe45df1e4add7de.jpeg30E8F78F-EC89-402F-919B-3D8690385375.jpeg.dcdc6c453f13251d7fe74a3ee2d055ab.jpeg

I put a 7 inch pedestal on my standard pelican aluminum seat bracket .  Is that to high ?  Am I asking for trouble with having the seat that much higher ?  Thoughts ?

I have a 7” pedestal on mine, and I am 5’9”. My feet don’t sit flat on the floor, but with the deck in front of me, it’s quite comfortable. Also, if you are facing sideways casting, it is comfortable also with your feet on the sides. I’m still getting used to it.

Also, for the Bigfoot switch, how and where are you guys mounting the switch?

Picked up my Pelican the first of June and finished it this morning. Can't wait to get it on the lake. I had an original Bass Buster in the 80's and stayed the bass with it. I live on Lake Kiowa (560 acres) which was too small for my pontoon but just right for the Pelican. It's got a 54 lb thrust Motorguide Bulldog to push it and the ice chest is a functioning live well. Also set it up for night fishing. The Crappie and Sand Bass fishing is fantastic here.

Hey Topkick, I am in the process of building my hf trailer for my raider. What boards did you use for the bunks? Looks good!

Been working on some new mods for my ol bass raider. Ill post up a full set of the completed project when finished, but here is a sneak peak.

I have the TM in front, along with my seat.  I mounted my Bigfoot directly to the sub floor I had carpeted & installed (use Marine grade plywood, it is more expensive, but worth it).  I put it at a distance from the seat where I don't have to stretch my leg to reach it, but it is out of the way when I stand up.
