Spinning rod and moving baits question

Featured Replies

I have a 7' heavy/med-fast TFO professional spinning rod.. Could I throw moving baits such as chatterbaits, swim jigs and spinnerbaits on it??

Simply put, yes. A better question is why?

There are plenty of people who only use spinning reels that are living normal happy lives.  Same can be said for people that only use baitcasting reels.

No real reason not to. Like @WRB asked, what size line would you be using? My suggestion would be if you're planning on using a heavier line, look to braided line for a spinning reel.

It can most certainly be done! As suggested, braid is your friend.

I use those exact things on spinning or casting. I prefer using certain things more on casting or spinning. I will never limit myself to one or the other though.

I find that if I try to make repetitive casts with a spinning rod all day long, it doesn't go well for me. A cast every 5 minutes finesse fishing is no problem. Spinning just doesn't handle as well as a baitcaster and is harder to control for most people. If you insist on spinning DEFINATELY use braid.I would use a 300 size reel with about 30# braid. Any other line type for the mainline is asking for a day ending tangle when casting constantly.

There was a time where all I had was a spinning rig, I only had one rig. I used it for everything, finesse fishing to throwing crank baits. If I could tie it on, I fished it.

It might not be the right rig for the bait, but the main thing is getting the bait in the water.
