Anyways to prevent weeds from

Hanging up on the hook bend near the eye when Texas rigging a weightless senko? Fishing the  weedy lakes and ponds l by me this becomes a nuisance. I’ve attached a photo where the weeds keep getting caught up

Not a fan of EWG hooks.

The off set bend shouldn’t pick up weeds, it’s a smooth bend unless using too larger hook for the Senko. 

A round bend off set hook design with the hook point above the hook eye so the point rest on top of the Senko skin hooked will solve your problem.

This is the exact hook I’m using it’s a vmc EWG. I use this hook because the offset part below the eye is tapered up slightly which prevent the senko from sliding down. I’ve had the senko slide down way to many times down the hook using a regular gamakatsu ewg where the offset below the eye is more straight

No.

 

We fish the same waters with similar weeds. Aside from the weeds and snot algae the bend on a standard hook will accumulate, it'll also prematurely wreck the worm merely by pulling and snapping them through weeds. How many senkos have you found discarded on the ground with the nose torn? Good chance a fish wasn't caught on it either. Just get the specific hooks shown below and most of your troubles will disappear, and you'll get far more fish per worm.

This particular model type has a longer than usual shank, so either one is fine. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the 5/0 simply because the shank is slightly longer which places the hook's point slightly farther towards the tail. That extra length may be negligible, but if it helps to nab a short striker...

P.S. These are also great fluke hooks.

Are these hooks good for “skin hooking”the senko? They seem more like an offset worm hook vs an EWG

Yes. Look at the pictures.

Yamamoto Senko is heavy loaded salt soft plastic and splits easily Texas rigged. Trying to bury the hook eye with heavy wire EWG hooks doesn’t work. 

The “Light” Owner CPS will shed weeds but don’t expect to re use Senko's for more then a few bass. The problem is the hook eye is exposed, the knot tag end will snag weeds.

Solve 1 problem and create another. Jethro rubber cone covers the knot.

It's such a waste. A Senko that can no longer be Texas rigged is a good wacky rig Senko.

What bothers me even more than the waste, is the fact that this is Littering. Don't toss your used plastic baits on the ground or into the water. Put them in a bag and dispose of them properly. Losing a bait is one thing....deliberately tossing it into the water of on the ground to get rid of it is another thing entirely.

This. I just throw mine in the bottom of the boat and throw them away when I get home.
