Working on an old house for my daughter the other day, I saw a dog at a house close by that was tied to a tree with a short five ft chain.                The day was very warm, and the old dog had no water, food, and very little shade. He was just laying there, and couldnt move much. He was obviously exhausted. His owners were not home. I filled up a pan of water for him, which he quickly drank dry. Then, I looked up the number for the local animal control, and called them. I gave him a pan of fresh water before I left.             Being a dog lover, these things aggravate me. I don't like folks who mistreat dogs, in any way.                                        So please. If you own a dog, do your best to properly care for them. I hope the animal control folks did something good for this old boy. He deserved better.

Good fir you!!

I completely agree, It just infuriates me when an animal or especially kids who can’t defend themselves are neglected to the point where it’s life is in danger or obviously in pain.

I’m glad you called animal control and hope in turn they called the police.

As long as Alan Ritchson is Reacher, I'll get in trouble every time but Tom Cruise ain't badass enough!

While we're on the subject and it is the season in many areas now . . . .

Most dog owners know that you can’t leave a pet in a hot car. Temperatures can rise to dangerous levels in just minutes, putting your dog at risk of heat stroke. But what if you open a window a little bit? Does that make it safe to leave your dog in the car? The answer is simple: You should NEVER leave a dog alone in the car, even with the windows cracked. In some states, it’s even illegal.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), studies have shown that cracking a window changes these figures very little. A parked car with the windows cracked heats up at almost the exact same rate as a car with the windows rolled up, putting pets in serious danger.

All dogs are susceptible to heat stroke. Heat intolerant brachycephalic breeds (dogs that have a relatively broad, short skull), such as Pugs and Bulldogs, however, could suffer negative effects sooner than other breeds. If you know you’ll be on the road with your dog, make plans to travel with another adult who can remain in the vehicle with him while the air conditioner is running. This will keep him safe, and it will also reduce the risk of your dog jumping out of an open window at a rest stop or in a parking lot.

Hundreds of pets die from car-related heat stroke each year. The issue is so important that 28 states have laws restricting people from leaving their pets unattended in vehicles. Some laws ban the practice outright, while others protect law enforcement officers and citizens if they break into cars to rescue pets.  I live in one thankfully.

Please don't cook your pet and call the authorities if & when you see it happening.

Anything over 60 degrees is too warm for my dog to leave in the truck. And even then, I prefer to park in the shade.

I’ve done it for short periods of time (30 minutes or less) in the winter when it’s about 20 degrees outside. Would never even consider it during the warmer months.

not to detract from the orignial topic.  (dogs in hot cars is worth its own thread)

i dont see dogs chained to trees that often.  when i do, it is usually some po-dunk area, that is lower income.  i just saw in in the back country of OK.  sucks.  sucks bad. i think the dog goes mentally insane living like that.

i got a dog to be part of my family unit.  i love the guy.  he was a wild rowdy type dog when young.  he is now a civilized country club dog.  hahahh..he is so spoiled.  i could sleep in his dog bed.  i plan on traveling a lot later in life.  i wont have a dog then.  right now, yea.  dog time.
