Did this smallie spawn already?

Featured Replies

Went to my local lake and caught an 18 inch smallie, but the stomach was a little skinny. Could it have already spawned?

Yes by the look of it.

The bottom of the tail is not damaged so it probably is a female. Your instincts are probable correct. It may be a spawned out female.

Out here in OR the bass in each river are in different stages. Water temp difference of two biggest rivers is about 6 degrees.  The fish I caught on Saturday in one river were post spawn. That same day a guy I know fished the Columbia and was catching big fat fish ready to spawn.
