Abu Garcia Veritas PLX vs Dobyns Fury Series

Featured Replies

I was wanting a new rod and I'm stuck between the Veritas PLX and Dobyns Fury Series both rods are 7'3" MH/Fast. Also I'm Stuck between two reels the Abu Garcia Revo5 SX, Daiwa Tatula CT bot hare 7.3 Gear Ratio

Never fished a Veritas but I own 8 Dobyns fury rods. The Dobyns fury medium heavy rod is more like a medium power rod and their heavy power rod is more like a medium heavy. What are you looking to do with the rod?

I have a crankbait rod and a heavy rod for top water I plan on using it for jigs and heavier swimbaits.

I stay away from Abu. Dobyns/daiwa all the way.

Veritas will be lighter and more sensitive than the Fury. Daiwa for the great breaking system.

I would go with the fury 734 or 735 depending on how heavy the jigs and swimbaits are and how heavy the cover you’re fishing.

The Dobyns Fury rods have much better reviews than the Abu rods, since pure fishing took over the quality control on the rods and reels went down hill quite a bit for most of the brands they now own, but if you like the Abu rods try one and if you break one they cost $15 to $20 for a new one under warranty vs $80 for the dobyns to be warrantied.

Ive had a Fury MH casting rod for several years and its a fantastic rod, but alot of people say they are a weaker power than what dobyns has them, but my MH is more like a Heavy.

I fish a couple of REVO Winches and like them. Lower ratio for crankbaits. I fish a few Veritas Rods but they are crankbait rods. Moderate action. Very happy with them also.

Can’t speak for all rods in that series but would imagine rod speeds called out must be pretty accurate.

Try to touch the rod before you buy it if you can.

Dobyn's 734 are incredibly versatile and probably what you want. They are rated heavy but they are more like a medium heavy. Veritas PLX are good rods too. I know multiple tournament anglers who use all Dobyn's rods and I know a very successful fella who uses all Veritas PLXs. Either makes a good choice.

I have or had both. In my hands the Veritas blows away the Dobyns for weight and sensitivity. Spend a couple bucks more and get the Tournament PLX and you will be really pleased. Seen them on sale a while back for $130.

The CT is probably a better reel, but man is it a tank compared to a Revo4 or a Revo5. If ergonomics matter to you, get the Abu. If you just want performance and don’t care if the reel is a porker, get the CT.

Ergonomics with a setup matter to me so I would go Tourney PLX with a Revo5 SX. Not even close. If that doesn’t matter to you, ain’t nothing wrong with a CT Fury combo.

I'm a big Abu Garcia fan.  If you're talking about the white veritas plx rods, I'd say skip them, in my opinion.

The tournament edition veritas rods out perform the white sticks by a huge margin.

If the dobyn's rods are the same price as the white veritas rods, I'd go dobyn's to be honest....at that says a LOT coming from me considering 80% of my gear is Abu.

I don't know about all that.

The higher end Abu rods are certainly competitive.  Especially the tournament edition and Fantasista x rods.

I have only one Abu because they have specific rod I need.  I cant compare with fury, But compare with Dobyns champion, they are waaaaaay heavier. Just dobyns known to be under power of rating them, So I suggest you do fury heavy rod so it will be equivalent with MH veritas.
