Read where a recent Elite Pro downsized to a soft stick worm in 4" length to flip near shore vegetation (after no luck flipping with larger , more traditional craws and beaver soft plastics ). I thought this was interesting - do you flip simple soft stick worms in 4" ~ 5" and if so , what do you like ?in stick worms  / set up ?

I pitch 4 inch and 5 inch Yum dingers to pads, reeds, Hydrilla etc with 1/2 oz tungsten pegged on 50 lb braid on a heavy, fast Rod.

What about hook size and type ? Some prefer 2/0 ~ 4/0 EWG hooks while others use 3/0 ~ 4/0 straight shank flipping hooks - your experiences ?

The only stick bait that is part of my usual rotation in close quarters is a 5” Berkeley General. 
 

Most times tho I’ll only use it as a follow up, never really as a primary offering in those conditions

I only buy Senko's in one color.  #925.  both 4 and 5 Inch.  I use more 5", but somedays, I get nothing and when I drop to a 4", it saves my day.  

 

I use 3/0 oShannasey (I need to learn to spell it someday).  I will let them run out and move 100% to straight shank hooks with bait keepers.  like the ReBarb 3/0.

The 4 inch Senko is super versatile, I fish it weightless, nose weighted, c-rigged and my most favorite way….on a Ned rig. With the most popular trend nowadays being to throw huge baits, swimbaits, glide baits and worms, there’s a definite reason to throw smaller baits. Especially in pressured or less productive waters like the Sabine River was.

4/0 flipping hook, snelled.

 

A weightless 4" yamasenko will catch fish when many other baits wont.  

I always have a 5” senko on deck. Always. 
I need to get some 4” I guess.

I can’t explain it, I used to only throw a 5” but I found there’s some days when the 4” really out fishes it. 

I use 4” Senkos frequently. Normally weightless on a 3/0 EWG. 

I really have lots of luck on 4" Senko wacky with 1/4oz jighead in open water and around covers. catches me everything, Catfish trout and of course bass and all good sizes.

5"inch Dinger is my favorite pitching lure.

If you aren’t using live scope and playing video games and casting over and over at a target watching how they react I wouldn’t worry about the subtleties. I’ve fished with friends in kayaks using that technology and I literally only use navionics on my phone sometimes they catch more sometimes I do
