St Croix Fast action rod with lipless crankbaits

Featured Replies

So just out of curiosity I was wondering if anyone has any experience throwing lipless cranks on a fast action St. Croix. I know that Croix rods tend to have more tip and so I was curious if it’d still be too much or if the rod would actually handle them fine. The Rod I have is a Victory 7’1 medium heavy fast action. I do have a 7’6 medium heavy moderate Mojo Bass as well, but I prefer using my Victory rod ?

You will be fine. For years my go-to for square bills was an Avid AVC 66 MF.

I think you'll be fine. I have fished them on their fast rods. I did however buy the MH Mod fast model in tourney to try lipless.

Before I started using Crankbait specific rods, I used a 7’ 1 Mh/F Mojo Bass for lipless cranks. It preformed really well, even several between 5 and 8 pound bass

The fast action is especially nice for ripping grass. Not mod or mod fast won’t work, just a preference

I also prefer fast for banging them around rip rap and rock/gravel flats. Brian.

I have that rod.  It’s fantastic.  It does a lot of stuff well.  The 7’1 MH victory rod that is.

I ONLY fish mine on a fast rod. The stretch of the copoly I'm using with them makes it a perfect combo.
