I recently had a plumber install a new water softener.  While he was there I used some Mendit to fix a Keitech.  He asked what I was doing.  When I told him he said, “That stuff smells like pvc glue.”  He went to his truck and came back with a can.  They smelled the same.  So I took a brush hog and split the end about an inch.  I used a Qtip to dip into the pvc glue and wiped it on the cut.  I pressed them together and laid it down.  After a few minutes I checked it and it was as good as new.  I will be buying me a can of that stuff.

That’s great,

Basically 3 types of PVC cement; standard clear, fast setting and standard plus a primer to make up a fast setting.

The standard clear would be what the OP used. The problem is shelf life, exposed to air kicks off the catalyst to set the cement. A small tube is more practical for anglers.

PS, a good option is CoBra Marine Pro worm Welder that Iovino developed.

I had one of those welders.  It’s a glorified soldering iron just waiting to burn you or melt carpet if you use it in the boat.
Mend-It is so much better for me.  When my Mend-It runs low, I’ll just get a can of the pvc glue and refill the Mend-It bottle.  I’m mending Keitech swim baits all the time.

You do know what we call " soft plastics " is actually PVC correct?

Yes with the exception of Elaztech.  I’m not sure what that stuff is.  I’ve not found anything that will mend it.

Try acetone.

I assume that the acetone remark was for Elaztech.  I tried it.  It didn’t work.

So nobody said they've actually tried this besides the OP. Anyone else tried it?

I've got a bucket of old plastics. Shelf life is not a big concern since I could do a bunch at one time. Looks like it's only like $8.
