International fishing trips are kinda a pain.

i want to take my Triza Dragoon travel fishing rod.  it is why i bought the thing to begin with.  i have been crushing Striper on trips with it tho, so it isnt unused.

United Airlines is okay.  i think i can bring the tiny cardboard tube i have it stuffed in on board as carry on - with my daypack.  the plane in Panama, it gets confusing.  they allow ONE (1) carry on.  my bag with my essentials is the one.  i am bringing a tiny pack with a few reels, malaria meds, headphones, etc.  they said they wont allow the rod tube because it is will be my second carry on!

Panama International is not the place to find out your rod cant come along.  not like i can turn to my wife and ask her to drive it home.

i should just eat the $65 and check a mostly empty duffel bag just to bring it.  my fishing guide sweet talked me into bringing some of his stuff!  i caved and will bringing his new soft tackle bags with me. ..grrrr...dude owes me a beer or 5.

maybe it stays home.  i'll know more once i pack, but as it stands even my checked is very tiny.  i am barely bringing any clothing...just light stuff i can wash.

If you want to be treated like a hero, ask your guide's if there is anything you can pick up and bring down with you.  Check as big of a bag as you can bring stuffed full of fishing gear, and anything else they may need.  Every guide likes a big tip, but sometimes bringing gear is appreciated more.

I live in Mexico, and every time a friend is coming down, I beg them to bring down fishing gear.  Many times people that live in the States do not understand how difficult it can be to get bass fishing tackle in other countries.  When someone goes through the hassle of checking a bag in order to bring me some gear, they are more welcome than Santa on Christmas morning.

Who are you flying with? I have been to Panama twice and flew in with Delta and then Copa to David and had a huge carry on and a personal item.

Copa as well.  i'm just going to upsize the duffle bag, to get my travel rod in.  and i'll ask the guide if he needs anything extra.  i just need to stay under 50lb.  easy.

i am bringing one change of clothing for the flight home, and the rest will revolve around two fishing outfits i rotate.  LIGHT!!

Check if you can ask the flight attendant to store the short tube in the front locker, that way it’s on plane when you depart. The rule is to discourage anglers who bring long tubes and tackle boxes.
