Favorite Megabass Destroyer P5 rods?

Featured Replies

Got a daemos earlier this year, but hadn’t used it until this past week. Have used legend elites, NRXs, Adrenas, and this is just as good I think. Also certainly is a pretty rod!

Love my Daemos. Great single hook moving bait. Mainly a bladed jig rod for me ripping 3/8-1/2oz baits through milfoil

I love me some more P5.  but like mentioned above, I dilute them with Dobyns Furies in my line up.

the FMJ was hard to warm up to.  it feels clumsy to me sometimes.  its because it is physically heavier to me.  I have a Bantam on it.   but I kept plugging away with it.   perfect mid sized DEPPS Coverscat rod.  perfect.   it throws 1/2-3/4 jigs awesome, which isn't ideal since I tend to like finesse jigs way more.   I am definitely warming to it.  why?  I am skipping baits!  easy skipping baits like gill profiles, and the scat.  but skipping accurately is fun.. the tip is pretty ideal for me.

Saturday I hooked a 17lb catfish.    I first thought it was a Giant bass, but nope.  the FMJ was fun.  glad it was NOT my whimsical X-bites that hooked the cat. hahah..

what bottom contact P5 is smack dab in the middle between the X-bites and FMJ?

So would you say the x bites is too delicate to pull fish out of thick grass/lily pads?

I've done it. it didnt break.  but I would be lying if I said I was pucker-less. :D  but I have had hundreds of catches on the thing.  including some giant catfish from Clearlake.

im not sure they make one between the 2 but im not an expert. Took me a minute to get used to my fmj too but now i love it. half to 3/4 ounce football jigs, 1/2 ounce jigs in grass. light grass flipping with a 3/8 ounce sinker and a beaver bait. those are some things ive found i really like it for so far.

That's an understatement!

I purchased a NRX+ after 2 P5's and I was disappointed when I pulled it out of the shipping tube.

They work good but the looks aren't even comparable.

Do you Megabass rod owners consider P5's durable? I'm intrigued by the Windbuster and found a used one thats close to my budget. I'm worried about not having a warranty to fall back on should an accident happen. I not rough with my gear, but you never know.

Most of my p5s are bought from Japan, so there is no warranty when I get them. They are pretty tough and not that weak, but there is no layers or something on the carbon material (the carbon material is exposed, I guess this reduces weight)  so you still need to take good care of the rod. I always use rod gloves to transport my rods. When I land the fish, I will not put my rod directly on the ground because my buddy might step on it. Actually even if you get a new rod from US, the warranty is also not as good as others. Only three years. By the way, windbuster is very very great and versatile. It’s my favorite P5 rod. I can almost throw anything from 1/4oz to 1/2oz comfortably.

Definitely not the first time I've heard this.

I don't own any P5 spinning rods, for some reason the handle turns me off.

I have a windbuster. I bought it because I love free rigs and it's often described as THE free rig rod. FOr me? Not THE free rig rod, but it will do it just fine. On the other hand it is incredibly versatile and there isn't much of anything within it's weight range I wouldn't throw on it. It shines for me on jerkbaits, particularly 110 jr, but 110 as well, topwaters and shakeyheads, also paddletail type stuff within it's weight range. Big versatility is the ultimate draw for me.

With regards to the handle? I LOVE the handle, it's my favourite spinning handle of all time. Many don't agree, just know, there are some of us that LOVE the p5 spinning handle.

Thanks for the information. Do you have the Megabass P5 oneten special?

How about the oneten special? Except for the Jerkbait, can you use it for other hard baits ? Thanks

Except for top water? Is it good for other lures, say chartterbaits, spinning baits, jigs, and soft plastics? Considering buying a versatile bait casting rod. Thanks

I often use the 110 Special for topwaters. Great rod for it. I use the Daemos for larger topwaters, but normal stuff I toss on the 110...

The Addermine has really grown on me.

Initially I used it for small Free Rigs; 3" plastic with a 7 gram. It was OK. Then I threw 1/8 oz Neds, and it was still OK.

Recently switched to Texas-rigged drop shots and it clicked. I know, drop shot rod excels at drop shotting? I'm as shocked as anyone.

So you all say the X-bites would be a great weightless 5” senko/fluke rod? I still can’t get over the fact that it’s rated as heavy. I feel like I need more assurance. 🤓

Yes.. I even use mine to throw 1/5 neds...

Best texas rig dropshot rod out there imo

Wow! Seriously? That’s wild!

I might be looking for another P5.

Maybe for topwater, poppers and spooks. Never thrown the Shower Blows but seems very popular now.

I already have the OneTen Special that I tried for poppers but it’s got floro on it. Tied a braid leader to it but it he whole setup wasn’t ideal.

Not really sure if I want to buy the same pole twice.

IDK, I’m really scratching to spend some money before the fall gets here.

Paired with a shallow spool metanium.. Can easily handle.. That's as bfs as I get.. Ned rigs catch big fish.. I don't find it enjoyable trying to finesse a big fish in with light line and gear... Xbites is not my idea of a heavy power rod, I have zero confidence in using anything over 3/8 on it.. It's a fantastic rod, that and the javelin are the only 2 p5s I still have and use...

Sweet! I plan on getting one for weightless senkos/flukes and light T-rigs and free rigs. Sounds like it will be perfect for the job. It just throws me off that it’s a heavy!

I have a P5 Windbuster (bought used at a very good price) --- a super versatile rod ---- these rods are a work of art

The windbuster and addermine have to be my favorites in the P5 spinning lineup.

I use my windbuster specifically for jerkbaits and free rigs but it could easily throw weightless plastics, 1/4oz finesse jigs, shakeyheads and a lot more. One of the most versatile rods I own. Great complement to my 852S

I only have the Bait Finesse model, and have only been able to use it in my neighbourhood ponds for crappie and small bass so far, but it's quickly become my favourite rod to fish with. There's just something fun about fishing with it. Can't wait to get out on the kayak and put it to its intended use targeting speckled trout and slot redfish.

Wanting to add a spinning rod now, but can't decide between the Addermine or Orochi x10 Jade Python.

I’m following this thread closely. Thinking of going full-on P5 US models fully for the 26’ season. That FMJ has my eye!
