Dropped seal from star tron into fuel tank

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I accidentally dropped the top seal off a star tron stabilizer bottle into my fuel tank. Is this something I should worry about at all? I can’t remember if the seal was paper or foil or more like a plastic. Either way, I suspect it is designed to not dissolve for a while, so it’s starting to worry me the more I think about it. I’ve already added gas and run about 6 gallons through the boat.

That was me.  I haven't had any problems since it happened.

I feel like if it gets sucked up in the hose, it could potentially cause the engine to stall… with my luck, it will happen when I’m loading the boat or need to get away from something quickly. What was general consensus from your thread?

Your fuel pickup should have a filter on it so that seal should not cause an issue.  Someday you might be able to fish it out when you tank gets low, but I would not loose any sleep over it, to many filters to stop it from doing any harm.

You might find someone you know has a borescope inspection camera. I have one made by Milwaukee that even has a light in the tip so I can turn that on if it's dark inside whatever cavity I am peering into.

You can find them for as little as $30 on the jungle site or hobo freight has some cheaper ones than what you'll pay at Home Depot for a Milwaukee or other brand name item.

You could probably siphon most of the gas out before taking a look.

I was also thinking you could use a boroscope.   I’m about 99% sure this would work great with a 1% chance it might produce an internal electrical arc that would ignite the gas fumes and kill you.   I don’t like those odds.
