Who has a Megabass FMJ?

You like it?

Mine is paired with a Shimano Bantam.  Yesterday I was feverishly trying to get a bass to eat my 1/2 jig with a beaver trailer.  Call it 5/8th as a total guess.  No bites, but I was stubborn.  I thru it a lot.

I feel the rod is really nose heavy.  I am no where near as accurate right now. W experience, I know my mind and body will calibrate to it.

it flings a 3.5 Coverscat like a  trebuchet laying siege to a castle wall.   Right now, that’s the most enjoyable thing I cast with it. The hook sets with the heavy rod is like hammer-time.  Yesterday,  I was not accurate with the jig.  I could feel the jig on the bottom fine.  Seems plenty sensitive for that at least.

I got the rod just recently and I need more time.  Tempted to try it with a heavier reel.

im on the fence right now.

I'll most likely be getting one as a general free rig/t-rig rod.

Most people I've heard from said the new P5s are more sensitive than Conquest/NRX+ rods, and I already know how light they are.

I'm sure you'll like it once you catch fish on it.

I can't wait to hear your opinion on it.  I like your insights.  thanks.

I wish this were true, because JLS has several p5's starting at $252 with cheap shipping.  P5's are sensitive, but not on the NRX level.

Tackle Tour's latest p5 review...

Sensitivity: I feel as though everyone today is looking for electric sensitivity in their fishing rod. Especially if the rod in question is at or above a certain price threshold. At just under $500, the BMG likely meets that threshold for many and if that's your expectation, I can tell you right now those expectations will not be met with the BMG. At the same time, I can also tell you that you will not have any issue sensing the bite with this stick.

I gotta try a NRX one day.

but not at a cost of castibility and rod action.  I have gotten to the point that I love a softer rod tip.  helps me cast.  and working a jig with a super stiff rod sucks in my hands.  I imagine my jig doing big superman jumps underwater.  hahah..

but I have to try one someday.  for sure.

Try adding a weighted butt cap, no reason to use a uncomfortable unbalanced rod.

I would agree. They are not quite as sensitive as the NRX line. But when you consider the cost at $252 + shipping, I'm OK with "not quite as". They just got me for a P5 Z-Crank.

@Darth-Baiter I talked to the guys at the Hook Up Tackle about this rod when I was looking for a heavy duty jig rod. They said it was close to the NRX+ 894 in feel, and it was just as stiff but maybe a little softer at the tip. Megabass says it's for open water football jigs but the Hook Up gave the impression that it's more of a flipping/pitching rod. I ended up with the 895C and kind of wish I would have picked this one up instead. The 895 is a beast.  On a side note, if you are wanting a softer P5 jig rod, take a look at the Super Destroyer. The carbon handle is something to get use to but the tip is soft and it loads well. I tend to like it for a do all rod. For jigs though, I like the NRX+ MBR 904C.

Like you, I was impressed with my 6-11 and am considering the z-crank.  I don't need it, but that hasn't stopped me before.  They have a few niche models I'm interested in actually.  You never know when this cheap JDM ride is going to end.

What's the shipping when ordering JDM, and where are you guys buying the Destroyer rods from?

Is the JDM warranty the same as USDM warranty?

I paid $409 for my recent JDM P5 Destroyer 110 stick.

JLS on the last one. Shipping depends sometimes on what you get, where you live, and how they are able to ship it. For the rod I just ordered it was around $40.  Which is the highest it's ever been.  So total I was around $300 for the rod.

As far as warranty goes, I was always under the impression that there wasn't any but I was able to warranty one with some help. I am not for sure but I think Megabass Japan did me a one time courtesy.

I have also ordered rods from Digitaka. I just checked and their shipping for a rod is around $55. It's typically cheaper.  Something must have changed here recently.

Thanks!

I'll go check out JLS.   I looked for MB rods at Digitaka earlier and didn't see any.

I guess I'd have to weigh if an American MB warranty is worth an extra $100.....$300 is stellar for these rods.

I almost bought another 6-11 instead but saw a guy using the z-crank for 110's and 110jr's. He is our local jerkbait expert. He's not much for words but said he loved it. I also didn't seem care for the 110 Stick and the 110 Special. One is too short for my taste and the other felt stiffer, like it was made for baits 1/2oz and up. So I am hoping this is a good go between.

One thing, I have not seen them carry the 7 new rods yet.

Yeah I was just browsing and they didn't have the rods I was looking for.....I'd like to get a Pop-x stick and the FMJ.    I'll keep checking, seems these JDM sites get inventory often.

Email them. They might be able to get one of them for you or put you on a list for a particular item. I have done this on a few occasions. Also, their English is not the best. I would keep an email simple.

The P5 rods are not as sensitive as an NRX. I had the BMG and was disappointed in the sensitivity for a bottom contact rod. The NRX+ 873c and 904c were noticeably more sensitive. I have a 110 special, Landsat and Tequila Baccarrac still, but I’m coming off the Megabass bandwagon a bit.

US warranty was the bomb.  They sent me a replacement rod no charge.   My own stupidity broke the thing and I told them so.

Why are you always a wet blanket to somebody's hopes and excitement? It's really a beating sometimes.

  • Super User

Wet blanket? PM me your thoughts, don’t want to poor feelings trying to be helpful.

Update.  It turns out that catching fish will help in loving a rod.

I used it on the 3.5” poop bait and it was a slug fest.  I had the wrong hooks for the application, so I really appreciated the backbone on my enthusiastic hook sets.

the softer tip casts baits like a catapult.
