I have a few nichols spins that have glitter on the blades, and it got me to thinking that I would like to do that on a few of mine. The question becomes how do you get it on the blade so that it won't come off. I thought of buying the glitter glues, but figured that the glue would be water based and wouldn't hold up.

I’d think covering with epoxy then sprinkle on the glitter while wet.  Then maybe a coat of Sally Hansen’s hard as nails.

this is the paint i use. If you want a lighter coat epoxy with any sort of glitter would be the way to go. Also there are some nail polishes that work. I dont like how they streak and never settle out though. I use that more on jig heads.

Mostly trying to get some purple glitter on my purple haze spins. For some reason purple is a magic color for clear water.

They got that - at $3 for a 2oz bottle...fairly cheap too.

My wife uses spray glitter on some of the crafts she sells. Works well for her use and has a good shine to it so it may well not need a clear top coat. She gets it at Michael’s or some such, it’s a Krylon product.

 

A can doesn’t go very far and it goes all over when you spray it.

 

That’s the extent of my knowledge of it.

If I remember correctly from the Nichols video they mix glitter in with a thin epoxy. This works with KBS as it is really thin, just put a little KBS in a small jar and add the epoxy. Otherwise spray some rattlecan clear over the blade, spray it with that glitter spray everyone posted then hit it again with the clear.

I persnally would not use epoxy, not that hard and easy to get too thick and heavy.  You want the thinnest possible coat.  I would use the blank finish material  U40 Permagloss.  It cures very fast , so one would want to have everything very well set up, a very fast brush of Permagloss, a very quick follow up with glitter, then see what you have.  Might want a topcoat.  But Permagloss will be a LOT thinner and lighter than epoxy.  

 

Glitter paint may also be good, thin, and easy.

I use the Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails. I put on a light coat, roll the glitter between my thumb and pointer finger over the blade. Let it dry in a few minutes, tap off any exess glitter that didn't stick, then another light coat of Hard as Nails. I've found fine glitter at Walmart and Dollar Tree.

 

I've also found some glitter finger nail polish at these same stores. I'll put a coat on, let dry, then top coat with Sally.

 

Purple is a hot color for me as well. I'll take a white blade and coat with some purple finger nail polish. Found some that has blue specks in it that looks and works great. One or two coats to get the depth of purple I want, then top coat with Sally. Barlow's had white willows and colorado blades on clearance recently and I bought a bunch for just this reason.

 

 

Buy a spray can of clear acrylic craft sealant and use fine glitter from Hobby Lobby . Lightly spray the blade with the clear sealant , lightly sprinkle the fine size glitter of your choice (which will stick) holding about 12” to 14” above the blade - then finish with another light coat of clear acrylic craft sealant . Works great for me - lots of color glitter variety with glitters from Hobby Lobby and many more glitter options that a spray with glitter mixed in .!

My wife stopped at Walmart today and picked up some glitter for me to try.

I've done glitter nail polish and a hardner topcoat. It works, and I have one glitter polish I got on clearance a few years ago, it's a perfect color changing copper that is no longer in production. I love using it and hate using it at the same time because it know it will one day be gone forever.

 

I'm experimenting now with devcon 2t mixing in mica Powder. I haven't been able to play aound much, but I've seen some youtube videos using it in similar fashion and I have high hopes.

 

The permagloss recommended might be the thinnest and lightest option, but permagloss is safest when you work wearing a ventilator.

 

I like the sealant spray ideas myself and might give that a go. I grabbed 50 size 6 willows of AE for like 9 bucks, woulda been closer to like 50 bucks here. Gonna do some testing in the new year.
