lines for crankbaits

Featured Replies

i like the trilene      ive only owned 2 spools of stren before  and i had probs with both of them       what size pound test are you using

If you're fishing around rocks I would stay away from Magnathin.  Very little abraision resistence at all.

I have a Curado 200DHSV and a G.Loomis Crankbait rod.  I have now tried 4 different lines on it and my favorite that I have used by far is the Gamma.

I use 10lb test.

I have tried:

Stren Magnathin - too many reties and seems to break easy.

P-Line CX Premium Moss Green - too rigid.  I couldn't seem to get a rythm with this line

Maxima Ultragreen Line - because I had a spool sitting around.  Not good stuff.

Gamma High Performance Copolymer - Tough, not too much memory, doesn't break easy, comes of the reel nice and the price is right.

I will be sticking with Gamma for a while even though I just ordered some P-Line Evolution Smoke Silver, which I will try next.

After using Floro for years I've switched to Hi-Seas White Lightning in 12#.

Results:

Longer cast

Deeper dive

Less memory

Good abrasion resistance

I now use mostly 10 lb Vanish for cranks. Used to use Trilene XL. Been experimenting with some others. P-Line is too stiff. It makes a good slinky. Magnathin is too easily abraided. Xl has quite a bit of stretch, but is still, IMHO, the best handling line. Tried some Silver Thread AN40. I picked it out of the clearance bin at wally-world. Not bad at all. Sensation is decent.

For next season, I have a spool of Gamma and a spool of Sufix Elite, both in 10, ready to try. The experimenting never stops.

Cheers,

GK

You guys using fluoro for cranking, I'm assuming it's more for the low stretch, abrasion resistance and not so much for the low vis property. I'm I correct?

Yes.  Also because it gets to the depths that I like quickly.

I use P-Line Fluoroclear or CX  10-12 lbs except for deep cranking that I switch to P-Line Fluorocarbon

I'VE BEEN USING TRILENE XL FOR TWENTY YEARS. I JUST HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING I LIKE BETTER.

BEFORE I TRIED TRILENE MY BUDDY SUGGESTED STREN, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE MUCH LUCK WITH IT.

THIS SUMMER I'M GOING TO TRY BRAID ON ONE OF MY RIGS.
