I am looking into getting a Sierra BFS as my first BFS rod. 

 

Can anyone comment on the differences between the 701, 700, and 740?

 

I will be using it for just ned rig-I know the 0 power have a solid carbon tip whereas the 1 power is a normal tubular blank.

I don't fish anything lighter than 1 power, even for stream trout niche (includes endemic river bass).  

I'm more often fishing 2-power for bass finesse from kayak.  

@NavyToad is correct - call Dobyns and talk to them about how you plan to use the rod.  

Probably even smarter than sharing it with us.  

Although, we'd all like to hear your result after talking with Dobyns.  

Unless you're looking to throw feathers, I'd go with the 1 power. I have the 691 and it will still cast down to 3-3.5g. A TRD by itself weighs about 4g, so I'd go with the 1 power.

I have a Tat SV on it with a Rays spool I bought from someone on here, but I haven't even spent enough time with it to catch a fish yet.

Well,.... Like I said,.. I haven't even had a chance to fish it enough to catch a fish with it, so hard to say much about it. 

 

I can say it is pretty nicely balanced. I have it loaded with 6lb mono and have thrown some small 1/16 - 1/8oz jigs with small crappie paddletails, small Rapala ultralight crankbaits (1/8oz) and 1/16 - 1/8oz texas rigs with small finesse worms on it and it casts pretty nicely. Not HUGE distances, but enough to do the job!

I did tons of research into the rods. The 0 power rod has a thin solid tip while the 1 has a regular tubular tip. 

Here is a post on Reddit by the owner of BFS empire on the rod:

"The 0 power rods with the solid tip are considerably lighter at the tip section and are better suited for casting lighter weight lures as well as techniques where you want to impart a subtle action by shaking the rod tip - like a dropshot rig. The soft tip is also great for lures with tiny treble hooks, like 1/8oz and under cranks, topwater, etc. I prefer the 0 power rods for JDM skirted finesse jigs as well, which tend to be 1/16oz and under and are generally paired with 1-2" soft plastics. Tiny swimbaits like the 2" Eurotackle B-Vibes paired to tiny jig heads with #4 and under hooks are gonna suit the 0 power rods as well.
I'd personally recommend the 700c or 650c if you're wanting a 0 power.

The 1 power rods are gonna be more of your traditional bass finesse techniques like standard size Z-Man Ned rigs, wacky worms, 1/8oz-1/4oz crankbaits, topwater, etc. The tubular tip offers a more uniform fast action, and has a little more hook setting power. I would go up to 1/0, maybe 2/0 w/ thin wire, hooks on this one."

 

I got the 690 and have thrown small cranks, jerkbaits and ned rigs. All have worked great. Never felt overpowered or that I couldn't stick a hook in em. Love the rod. The softer tip allows me to sling these little baits pretty dang far. 

I have the 700C. No complaints other than the components are not the best but for the money, its great. It was my first BFS rod as well. I have caught 100's of fish on it. I would describe the tip as light but x-fast and the middle is soft and moderate.  

 

It wouldn't be my first choice for Neds though.  I still enjoy that on spinning gear.

I have the 691. I’ve only used it for Ned’s and pond magic spinnerbaits. I worked great I have zero complaints.
