I was fishing with braid about two weeks ago and lost two very expensive lures due to tying a clinch knot.  I ignored all the advice on here to avoid the clinch knot with braid.  So, guys still tying clinch, that cherished lure will fly off sooner or later.

I then started using the palomer knot but it waste way to much line.  I only have one rod spolled with braid and everytime I change lures, I lose a lot of line.  Suffix braid is pretty expensive stuff for me and I hate seeing all the line wasted as tag ends.

Do you find this true too or am I just tying the palomar knot wrong?

you're tying it wrong.you should have a 2-3 inch tag end.pull most of the spare line up from the main line not the tag end.also i super glue all my knots.they will never slip and the tag end won't fray.on cranks you can use snaps and save even more line.

I use Fireline on one reel and use a snap tied with a Palomar, so I don't have to retie very often. Another thing that comes to mind is to use a mono or fluoro leader to save the braid.

The Crawford Knot works on any and all lines. It's quick and easy to tie and it does not slip if cinched properly. If it's good enough for Stripers.......................

With braided line I use a Uni-knot for 'everything'.

My next knot problem will be my first.

I had the same problem with u so i started using leader,its cheaper like this

DodgeGuy hit it on the head - keep your tag ends short

You must be tying it wrong, or just wasting line... you can tie it with a short tag.  You need a 3-4 inch tag on any knot so you can cinch it down properly.  If you are worried about 3-4 inches each time, than I can't help you with anything other than a suggestion to use less expensive line or use it on rods dedicated to singe techniques.

I use a palomar knot amost always and it is not waisting line.

I think you might be tieing it wrong. Get some old line, or cheep line. look it up on the intenet and practice if over and over till you get it the way you think is good.

The leader info for braided line. good info. I always use a leader. I never tie the braid to the lure. I do however use a palomar knot to tie the leader to the lure

I tie a Palomar Knot most of the time. I "waste" an inch or two on every knot. As flechero suggested, if that's too much, use another line.

The length of my tag end depends on what my line above the bait looks like. If the line is not frayed, kinked, or twisted the tag end stays about one or two inches. If the line is all chewed up then the tag end will be about six to seven inches.
