Fishing Rayburn for the first time for the Big Bass Splash in April. I want to fish the Atchafalaya, just haven't had a chance to get over there yet. I try to go to TB at least once a year.
Captain Phil
At one time the Harris Chain was the poster child for muddy stained water. When we moved here in the late 90s, algae blooms were so rampant you couldn't see deeper than a few inches. Back then, Rattle Traps, spinnerbaits and flipping caught most of the big fish. You could stand right over the fish with only three feet of line out and catch 'em. The bass were so tight to cover, every lone stick up or pad had a fish on it. After a dozen casts or so, you could get one to bite. Things are different now with the fish mostly in offshore grass. I kind of miss those old days when you had to know something to catch bass. Now you know too! 😊
Junk Fisherman
I'm glad this topic was posted. I'm on vacation next week and sure enough the forecast is calling for a lot of rain on Monday and Tuesday. I hate cold, muddy water! Granted, I did have a great day last year including my PB in muddy, cold water on some riprap on a chatterbait at this exact same time of the year. I'll be there some time next week slinging chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and a big ole Dark Sleeper. Most of the year I'm fishing ultra clear water for smallies so my spring largemouth trip is usually outside my comfort zone.

Super User Koz Posted March 20 Super User Share Posted March 20 For me, cold, muddy water makes fishing tough. But in the warmer months and waters I find that the bass are more active. For almost three months now we've had only 1"-2" of visibility on the lake where I live and the sister lake that I fish nearby. I'm about over that. Super User Scott F Posted March 20 Super User Share Posted March 20 Here’s a tip for ponds that get muddy after a rain. Many will have a place where the water is flowing in. Sometimes it’s a creek, or there may be a culvert where the water is coming in. Fish at that inlet. If there is a culvert, throw a lure inside it. That water runoff will be a huge attractant. There may be some current, but work that area hard. Jigs, worms, spinnerbaits whatever lure you can work in that spot.
JT Bagwell
In muddy water I like to throw a black/blue jig with a trailer that has a lot of appendages, a Rat-L-Trap or a Spinnerbait with a big, thumping Colorado blade.
Super User slonezp Posted March 28 Super User Share Posted March 28 The lure is less important than the placement of said lure
Super User N Florida Mike Posted March 28 Super User Share Posted March 28 I have one murky water lake I fish. I have only caught fish there on a blue curly tailed worm, and a root beer fluke. And every fish was tight to the bank except for a couple in pads…
