The 2007 models have 8 bearings and I will be buying a couple of them.

I currently use the first generation Fritts reels (goldish beige ones) and they've been real workhorses and you can throw a big crankbait plum out of sight with 'em,I dont see the new ones being any different in that aspect.

I'm considering at least one for myself.  ONe of my current cb reels is getting a bit long in the tooth.  Should last me another year, though.

I had one of the older Fritts reels in my hands, never tried it out before I sold it, I noticed it didn't have instant anti-reverse. Kinda odd for a reel made within the last 10 years.

Why not spend a couple of extra bucks and get a reel that is perfect on day one, and ten years later is better?

Fritts "designed" the Bass Pro crankbait reel with the slop in the handle on purpose like the old Lew's reels.  He said he thought the play in the handle helped when crankbait fishing. When a fish hit,  the fisherman wasn't able to set so fast and hook up better.

You just dont get it because I didnt say my Fritts reels were broken or I forsee them breaking.  ;D The Fritts reels that I have are great and I can crank huge crankbaits all day,day in,day out with no problems and I can probably cast farther with my Fritts. Moral of the story: I usually wont fix something that isnt broke.

Didn't know that.  I guess it makes sense.  I've got a pair of 20+ year old Garcia Ultra Mag XL Plusses on both my Crankin Sticks and, of course, they don't have instant anti-reverse either.  Not that I mind, those were one of the finest baitcasting reels ever made and they cast a mile.  

Oh, they're not broken either and work just like they did 20+ years ago without the word Shimano printed anywhere on the reel.

Listen to fivebasslimit on this one. My brother has one of the new David Fritts reels and I have last years model. They can cast a country mile and when matched up with the right rod, you can throw it all day. The new reels have a longer handle, giving you more leverage while crankin ina hawg.

I love my shimano stuff but for around $50 bucks, why not?  If this is what your budget is for a reel and it surves the purpose, then what a deal it would be.

But IMHO, any of the BPS reels are subject to scrutiny.  

I had a long talk with a BPS old timer and the story he gave me, in short, was that some are good and some, you just don't know. He sees many repeat buyers with their BPS reels but most are replacing old with new each year or every other year.  For me, I think I would rather add a new reel than replace one every year or so.  

With that said, I will not pass judgement on a reel until I have had a chance to take it apart or fish it.  So until then I will try to keep an open mind.

Let me try this again.  

$50 seems like a good deal.  If you are hunting for a reel in that price range, then this may be a good reel to look at.  

Does that make more sense or is it still a backhanded comment?
