My first fishing gear in the mid-60s was from exactly that...an ad on the back of a comic. Me and dad heading out with the 'Comic Gear' circa 1967

Remember those ads from the 60’s and early 70’s. Never had to mail order anything like that. The stuff was probably ok to fish with back then. Growing up I was lucky enough to have a couple of hardware stores my dad and grandfather would be in and they had fishing and hunting supplies there. Real cool and a nice find you have there.

I’m almost 64. And to this day I distinctly remember “Star drag! Found only on best reels!”

I bought one of those without the rod and reels. Got a box of lures. Mostly stamped out spoons. I remember a purple spinnerbait.

You can buy the reels off eBay, something like $20 each, you could make a killing if you still have them.

Although if you had sunk the $13 in the stock market in 1965 you’d have $13000, so maybe the reels weren’t a great investment.
