I seems like we often have threads asking "What do you think of this..." after the equipment has been purchased. I think a lot of people are reluctant to criticize something you have already bought. If you really want some advice, ask before you buy, the number of responses will probably be greater and provide you with better information on which to base a decision.

Also, if you get negative reviews, don't take it personally...you asked for an opinion and that's what you got.

I see that SOOOOO often on another board.  The statement usually goes something like:  "I just bought a brand new (insert boat brand here) powered by a (insert engine brand).  Has anyone had any experience with these brands that can tell me something about it?"

I absolutely cringe when I read something like that.  Ask BEFORE you go out and lay down your life savings....not after

About the only time I make a honest remark is if I've used it and it was just a huge piece of crap.  Thats when I will post up about it.

If I really do like the product they just bought.

Most of the members give honest opinions for a reason its not to hurt the posters feeling its just speaking out of truth or experience.

Here's my rule of thumb. If someone's already bought the equipment, I'll share facts based on personal experience, but NOT opinions.

I won't say "Brand X is a piece of crap, and it's actually made by Brand Y which is an even bigger piece of crap"

But I might say "I owned a Brand X reel and the anti-reverse went out after 3 months"

great idea r.w..i also think people shouldn't comment on equipment they have never used.people should at least try something before they comment on it.trying your friends stuff for a day would be a fair test.owning something for a year would be even better.

I made a comment earlier on some Power Pro, which I hate!  I used it for a little while but the stuff kept breaking.  So i told a guy that the stuff was no good.  But that was just my experience.  Most people said it was good stuff.  But, I have talked to others who didnt like it either.  So I agree with yall.  If you dont know about something from learning yourself, it might be hogwash!

As a newbie, I have, more than once, been guilty of the "buy before you ask" syndrome when posting on this site.  Without fail, the members have tactfully pointed out the error of my ways.  As yet, no one has ever called me a dumb-azz or an idiot. although I'm sure they wanted to.

As the old saying goes....an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Good advice RW.

This is definitly a great idea snd a great benifit of belonging to this forum. The only thing I have to say about this is that what Daniel said is true. Some post on these questions come from people who have not personally used the products and therfore are of no real benifit. If you haven't used a product I dont think you can honestly give a good assesment.

Once you do buy, give us a review - dont ask what we think!

A question like that is generally a pretty good indicator of "buyer's remorse."
