Owner Flashy Swimmer 5/0; Will a gambler 4-1/4" work?

Featured Replies

I'm really loving how the owner flashy swimmer looks and the fact that there's an option for a gold blade, as well as the price compared to other brands...

The one thing I don't like is that there's no 4/0 option.

Would a 4-1/4" ez swimmer pair well with the 5/0 option?

I don't want to use a 5" swimbait as I'm still gaining confidence in these sizes. I'm taking a leap of faith by using a 4-1/4" as it is 😆

I'm not ready to use that size swimbait and I've doing research on the actions of different swimbaits as well as the colors.

I like the action and color options of the gambler ez swimmer over the keitech.

I appreciate the recommendation though! I'd just like to know if anyas tried what I'm doing and knows if the 4-1/4" ez swimmer will work on that size underspin by owner

If the hook doesn’t go past the seam in the gambler the action should be fine. You can screw a little less into the nose so the hook point is further up the bait. I have lots of gamblers but not in 4.25”. Sorry can’t test it out for you.

Good to know!

I guess I'll just have to spend some money then and find out! Loll. Don't know when I'll get to getting it, but I'll be sure to report back here when I do...

Until then, I will say that this thread is open for anyone with experience on the matter! Lol

What's wrong with using the 3/0?  Do you have a pic of it rigged?  I'm sure the very experienced here can give a best guess if there's enough room for a 5/0.

I don't have the underspin or the swimbait yet. I'm just wondering before I go and spend money lol.

I'm also getting a size 3/0, so I can try that. I thought about using the 3/0 size before, but I thought that would lead to a lot of short strikes.

Hopefully someone has put the size 5/0 together with the swimbait before and knows!

The 3/0 will work, the 5/0 will be right on the edge at best.  Bass short strike much less frequently than fisherman talk about it.  They use a giant vacuum/crusher for a feeding strategy, they don't nibble, taste, and tear things.

This is an AMAZING visual! Thank you so much for showing me!

Looks like it will be perfect on the 5/0!

I'd prefer a 4"+ swimbait on a 5/0 screw lock EWG because you'll tear apart far less swimbaits.  I am not a big fan of small hooks for soft plastic baits that I'm going to be chucking and winding constantly.  They tend to tear the plastic up from casting + weight of the plastic itself.

This is great to hear! Thank you!

It's a Rage Swimmer

Here are the hook sizes Keitech advises for optimum bait action.

I'm sure other manufacturers have recommendations.

2.8" - 1/0

3.3" - 1/0

3.8" - 2/0

4.3" - 3/0

4.8" - 3/0 or 4/0

5.8" - 6/0

6.8" - 8/0

7.8" - 10/0 or 12/0

The gambler is kinda special because it has a crease in the middle that helps with the tail mouvement but on a more conventional bait, like a Rhythm Wave, a long hook takes away some of the mouvement.

Just a suggestion. Order a pack of Owner CPS (L) too. I swap out the stock medium CPSs every time if the plastic will accommodate the large. The larges rarely core-out the plastic after a bite where the mediums will more often.

Meh in comparison to the Owner CPS. I swap them off of VMC Drop Dead hooks for the Owner's.

I might just use the stock then.

Im getting all my stuff from a site other than TW and that's not one of their products, although I really appreciate the advice! Thanks! I might get some at another time.

I looked at it and I don't really like it compared to the Owner. Thank you though!

5/0 will work. 3/0 is a better fit though.

+1 for the post above suggesting to change out the CPS spring for one size larger.
