New Daiwa Steez 2500

Featured Replies

Well, I done did it.

I went to BPS Orlando and got the Steez spinning reel 2500.  7.1 oz. with a 170 yard capacity of 8 lb. line.

This is an absolutely gorgeous reel.  a gunmetal grey with some silver and gold accents.  It feels like a precision swiss watch.  typically daiwa in feel, meaning that there you know there is something moving in their but it is the feel of precision.  I call it "communicative" and it is why  I only buy Daiwa reels.

The smoothness and lack of friction is a joy.  One turns the handle, lets go and watches it continue turning unrestrained.  The feel of the spool oscillating is basically imperceptable.

Tolerences are extremely close.  No loose handle fittings, no rattles.   the handle is extremely ergonomic. Very comfortable and secure.

I mounted it on my Loomis BSR852 GLX.  and loaded it up with 10 lb p line evolution.

The entire outfit is very light, and well balanced.

It holds a 140 yards of 10 lb test.  I'll bet I can cast the whole spool with a 1/2 oz rattletrap.

Is it tomorrow yet?

I played with the Steez and Stella at BPS last week.  Nice reels, but... :'(

Excellent! That is a pretty reel.

I know you haven't been a big fan of spinning tackle, but this should help get you over the hump.

Avid,

Congrats on the new reel. Now you know how I felt when I got the Stella. Be sure to tie a good arbor knot, so you don't cast the line and lure completely off the reel.  :o

Ronnie

Wow, way to go Avid.  That's a nice reel.  Enjoy it man.  I hope some pig gives your shoulder a work out.

Al

Hey enjoy that reel pisano

Wow.  Congrats on the new reel.   Those reels are like jewelry for fisherman. :o

Thanks for the report, I think I'm gonna pick one up for my GLX worm and jig rod

Avid we have the same combo now- amazing how that reel feels and ohh so light in weight. That GLX 852 is a weapon all on its own. It is in the middle of winter here in Idaho everything is frozen over d**n.  Give us a review of how it works out for ya

I can't believe you did it!  I obviously don't know you real well, but I know your persona on the board, and you are a smart and skeptical shopper.  What happened to you also recently happened to me with the Steez rod.  You have been overcome by an intoxicating condition called technological superiorty complex.  Symptoms start when an angler simply asks to hold a reel or rod, and becomes drunk with its superior technology and refinement.  High-end Daiwas are like Ferraris...and you just bought the F50  :o 8-)

wow, that is way more money than I would ever spend on a reel! It sure is purty though.

Your point is well taken KU and after my rantings about spinning tackle being "inferior designs"and all that it does desrve an explanation.  My shoulder problem is still naggingly painful.  I can fish but if I want a complete fix, it's back under the knife.  I need something that I can fish from shore with.  I can walk to the water, but only want to carry one rod.  hence the spinning outfit because it can be switched rightie to leftie.  It was one of the justifications for getting such an expensive outfit.  I have a decent out fit that my son uses when he visits, but I wanted something that could cast from the bank I'm standing on accross to the next bank

I'm not limited to the bank yet, but if I get the surgery, I will be.

For a report go to the "my outings" forum.

I know, I know.  Just busting you up a little.  I figured it had something to do with the shoulder.  You gotta do what you gotta do.  You and I share the same views on spinning gear .......  So I hope you don't mind from now on if I giggle when I see your posts (like in the outings section) with that fairy wand. ..... again j/k :o

I thought you hated Spinning Reels???? Did you not say they were  inferior designs
