philbert1922
Major Craft Trout Rod Troutino Area Model TTA-S622L vs Temple Fork Outfitters Trout Panfish II. Looking for a new rod. Been ultralight fishing with a Shakespeare micro and I have the bug.
Super User webertime Posted September 15 Super User Share Posted September 15 I'd go Major Craft based on reputation alone.
Super User bulldog1935 Posted September 15 Super User Share Posted September 15 If you're looking at trout/stream rods, @redmeansdistortion and I are both probably going to praise rods by Smith, Ltd. Another place to look, glass UL from Shane: https://www.graywolfrods.com/lurefishing
garroyo130
What kind of fishing do you plan to do (lure/line weight) and what reel are you matching it to? Micro spoons, weightless trout magnets, etc.? Bait fishing, indicator fishing?
Eric 26
@philbert1922 I’m going to assume you’re referring to spinning rods as I tried looking up your choices as I own neither. With that said I’m going to offer some alternatives as I love fishing ultralight/light powered spinning setups. On the low end I’m going to suggest the Bass Pro Panfish Elite rods as I own the 6’-8” ultralight and the 7’-2” light powered rods and priced at $79.99 I don’t think you can find a better value. Next up I would suggest the St.Croix panfish series as suggested to me by @MiceNReets which I have the 6’-0” ultralight powered version priced at $129.99 and finally my latest purchase this past spring and my new favorite which is a St.Croix Avid Panfish in 7’-0” light power priced at $220.00 and it’s definitely worth every penny. I will also suggest the St. Croix Premier series which I have an older version in 6’-6” light powered 2 piece that is incredible but not as sensitive as my newer rods but could be due to the fact it’s 20 plus years old but in its defense it’s been absolutely bulletproof. Good luck and happy shopping😃 Also keep us posted on whatever rod you choose. Sorry for the long winded response.
Solution msgf91 Posted September 16 Solution Share Posted September 16 I have a TFO Panfish II 6'6 UL. It's awesome so far. It's sensitive enough that I've been able to catch tiny bluegills and feel the light pulls of dink crappie. It has enough backbone to play bigger crappie and Bass.

I've been using a 8lb j braid with 4lb mono leader. Want to try lighter braid but haven't got around to ordering it yet. I been throwing 1/32 jigs.
Hulkster
I would look at the Loomis GCX lite rods. I have the Loomis Trout Series Rod TSR791 and its amazing but they are no longer made. The GCX lite rods replaced them, but I have heard great things. Loomis has always made fantastic Trout rods. They have always been more crisp than the St. Croix trout and panfish rods that I find way too noodley
msgf91
I was going to post a pic but I couldn't get my compression app to work like normal
RedRob
I have a St. Croix Legend Elite Panfish 6' UL. I pulled a 7-8lb catfish in. was crappie fishing with 1.5in tubes on a kayak. you would have thought I caught a whale. took 10-15min to get it in. St. Croix has several Panfish UL and Trout UL ranging from $120 up to $400. I know i can feel a trout sucking an egg off my hook at 40ft. Ultra light = Ultra fun. 7lb catfish feels like 70lb tuna.
