So I just received an order with a few of these newer tungsten casting jigs made by Strike King and they have a very odd eye for attaching your line to. It's more like a hole through part of the head than it is an eyelet. 

 

Anyone else fish these jigs? Are you utilizing a loop knot to attach them? 

 

Just curious what knots you guys use as the size of the eyelet is far larger than anything I have ever used. Seem like really nice jigs though...

Nothing odd at all about them. They've just streamlined the tungsten around the eyelet to make them as weedless as possible. Tie your regular knot and you're good. 

That head design has been around for years!

OK, maybe not odd.... but different than every other jig I have ever seen. 

 

Seems like a loop knot would be ideal to me, they just are not quite as strong as say, a palomar in my experience... 

 

Just wondered what others experiences are with them, since they were so different.

I have very little experience fishing jigs of this type, maybe so, first I have ever seen any like this though. 

A Palomar Knot will hold just fine.

That is vastly different than what I have... What you have shown there is a no brainer and I would have never made this post if that is how they were LOL 

 

The ones I just received, the hole starts in the front, goes to the back, it's literally like a longish tube through the tungsten... Hency why I wondered if guys are using like a non-slip loop knot with them, etc...

Nothing new to that @Goby in fact I believe there is a little science to the line tie vs hook point angle to aid hook sets.. tie it on and swing away!!

Here is the eye on those jigs, as you can see I ordered a bunch of them lol They have a hole through the front of the head, basically from top to bottom, had never seen this design before, personally.

 

Seem like great jigs, was just a bit perplexed on the best knot to use, haven't got one wet yet.

Man, that eye is really recessed.

Of course it's the same concept, it's a hole LOL 

 

But it's a hole that is 20x longer than what you posted LOL

 

There is zero "recess" on either side and if you look through the "hole", it doesn't seem like an eyelet in there, it literally seems like a hole was bored through the tungsten. I am assuming the hole passes through the hook eyelet too, but the hole looks like you are putting your line through a tube. 

 

Best I can tell anyway.

 

I guess at the end of the day, I was just curious if anyone was using non slip loop knots to attach these things, how it worked in the weeds with that knot and how it worked as far as chafing the line. Guess I just need to get them wet and try it myself...

 

You are literally trying to tighten a knot on to a "point" of the head, if the line slides one way or the other off to the side, the jig wont travel straight and will no doubt catch more weeds, hence why I thought it may have been designed to be used with a loop knot... 

@Goby Your assessment is correct

 

In my opinion that is why that design never caught on after various attempts. 

The only knot that may work well is the San Diego Jam. 
Other knot must clinch tight around the hook eye without creating an opening.

The SD J knot slides down itself and clinches tight onto itself.

Interesting design but I'm apprehensive.

With that line tie on the nose of the jig,

when fishing in hard cover (rocks especially) what's preventing the line from chaffing or at least being somewhat damaged as the jig bounces the line off the rocks ?

At least with a regular line tie eyelet, the jig will not be wearing away at the line where it connects every cast. 

Looks like a big fish story waiting to happen.

Yup, hard pass here too. I’m good on tried and true jigs. What were they thinking? 

I've tried them and that head LOVES bringing back weeds. No bueno.

They’re very similar to my favorites - the All Terrain Tackle jigs. Been using those for years. Palomar all the way. Braid or fluoro.

 

I just got a few of these Strike Kings. Plan to use them this fall. The hooks are a little wimpy but 15lb fluoro should do fine.
