Just watched this video and I was a little shocked by all the nonsense, wonder how many records are bogus with such red tape ?

Whole lotta hoops to jump through, no doubt about it.

I might consider entering a state record here in MN, but not on a small lake. It becomes public information and the lake would get annihilated. Not worth the exponentially increased fishing presssure.

Being a one time IGFA line record holder the lake name or location wasn’t a mandatory requirement on the application. A general fresh water region is all that is needed. You do need to be able to authenticate the species, weight length and girth from a independent authority, not easy back in the day but with todays smart phones making contact with local wardens and photos is a lot easier.

Well this guy weighed and measured it, filmed it and photographed it , seemingly jumping through all the hoops and still denied

Authentication requires a biologist or state warden to examine the fish for added weight and identify species, plus current fishing licenses.

Catch & release without all the above the application is denied impossible to authenticate.

I lost all respect for the IFGA when they introduced length records and said you have to use their measuring board to get a length record.   Great way to sell measuring boards.  Also a great way to loose all credibility.   What’s next?   Start selling line and say you must use our line for a line class record?

I know for the IGFA length measurements, their measuring device was a requirement. No device, no record. I remember when they were headquarter’d here in Dania, Florida, I had to run down there and pick one up $40 bucks.

Yep such was the case with the Indiana state record largemouth caught right here in my area of Elizabeth, In. If I recall properly they did DNA (IN DNR) and determined it was a Florida strain LMB. What? I remember thinking how in the hell..

But they conceded and granted the state record. It wasn’t an IGFA record but still, I do know the place it was caught and it’s a private lake , surrounded by half million dollar homes. The bait was a 1/4 ounce Pop R

There is always luck in fishing lol

What about having a dropper fly disqualifying the record ? Silly. Counts for trout but not for wipers 😂

and ironically the guy was fishing for trout when he caught the wiper

I don’t really care about fishing records.  I wish the state agencies would track record fish.   Let’s celebrate that a 12 pound smallmouth was swimming in our local waters.  I don’t care if it was caught by an angler,  in a commercial fishing net,  or by a wildlife officer electro fishing.

He had all of that. They denied him due to one idiotic technicality after another. They never wanted to give it to him. The story got weirder and weirder. His final denial was due solely to 2 flies. The fish doesn't exist and wasn't caught because of ummmmm 2 flies. Makes sense. Records are a joke and almost no record holder deserves it. They've all been beaten by people who never cared to get these idiots involved or were denied by said idiots for an idiot reason.

To be honest I haven’t kept up with all the IGFA regulations simply because no longer in pursuit of a world record bass anymore.

Listening to the video posted the IGFA screwed this application from the beginning. The use of trap hooks is illegal for fresh water fish if the hooks are separated more then the specified distance and the dropper fly may have violated the rule? That should have been noted right away.

Congratulations for catching a record fish too bad the angler was treated so poorly.

You might remember that I think I caught the Maine state record Chain pickerel this summer. This video makes me glad I didn't try for the record.
