River guys - which do you use most this time of year, Vision 110, 110 + 1 or Junior +1?

Featured Replies

River I fish is on the smaller side, 3-5’ on average with plenty of 7-12+ holes throughout.

I am just getting into Jerkbait fishing, and started w the 110 & Junior + 1 but wondering if there’s a place for the 110 + 1?

I’ve heard the 110 doesn’t run true to the depth rating even with proper line and long casts, do you even bother with regular 110 this time of year?

I probably fish the standard 110 more than the plus. It depends on the depth the fish are suspended and the standard is usually a good starting point.

If your fishing from the bank (uphill) that's pretty tough to figure out. But I'd would much rather be over them than under them.

What depth are you trying to get to ?

I’ll alternate between a 110 and the +1 depending on depth and the grass line.

@Ohioguy25, I primarily fish the San Joaquin River side of the delta and the depth varies hour to hour and day to day according to the tide. The average depth that I like to throw a jerkbait is about 4 to 15 feet and there is enough depth for international traffic to Stockton and Sacramento.

Smaller baits work better for me with colder water.  Try the LC Pointer 78dd in whatever color that looks good to you.

This time of year on the Delta….Ive destroyed a few too many Visions 110s as I’ve stumbled upon schools of stripers.

@Ohioguy25 What line are using?

This is dependent on water temperature.....For me the 110 hits around 5-6 feet on 10lb test FC and 4 feet on 10lb test mono. I fish the Tippecanoe river in Indiana and it can be all over the place when it comes to current and depth.  For shallow water,  I like the 110jr. It will stay around 3 feet deep. For quicker current and wading,  I like trout lures on BFS gear. My favorite is the Bassday Mononofu 50s. This bait sinks but as long as you keep it moving and popping, it catches just about everything. Including this guy.

I haven’t been on the water since November @camman, and I agree nothing makes one more nervous than having a 110 stuck in the face of a fall run striper. Something about will the line snap if I don’t play this fish right, are those Katsuaga hooks going to bend out, and why didn’t I bring the net all come to mind. However, if I’m targeting stripers now with all the tule fog this time of year, I’d be throwing chrome three-quarter ounce Rattle Traps, Lunker Punkers or dragging the big jointed Rebels.
