Any suggestions on a boujie frog/buzzbait rod under 7’0? Currently have the Expride B 7’3 XH but just curious to see if there’s something shorter for throwing frogs and buzzbaits. Was thinking P5 Super Destroyer but haven’t fished with that rod yet.

I would look at JDM stuff from Raid and Megabass (Deps & Gan Craft too).  Lots of sub 7ft Heavy rods in Japan. 

How heavy of cover?  The falcon head turner and the eye crosser are 6’10” and 6’11” respectively. The head turner is a great buzzbait rod if you like shorter rods for that. It works well for frogs around lighter cover.  I don’t like it for frogs on mats or heavy pads.  A head turner with 30-50# braid would be a good choice.  If you are talking heavy cover for the frogs then you need to jump to the eye crosser.  That will also throw a 3/8 buzzbait if you are using a trailer to get the total bait weight up over a half ounce. Or just a half ounce buzzbait.

Was thinking shorter accurate pitches in between docks, reeds, and sparse grass mainly. Would probably end up using the 7’3 XH Expride B I already have for the super thick stuff. Was thinking more about the smaller frogs and 3/8-1/2oz buzzbaits. I currently have a P5 Daemos as well. I know that’s longer than 7’0 but does anyone have any input on how that would be for this application? 

I have the Super Destroyer. It will do well with 1/2oz frogs and buzz baits but it's not my favorite frog rod. It's pretty stout rod for small frogs as well. 

 

There is also the Steez 6'7" Frogger.

 

 

I also use a 7'3XH expride for frog fishing but don't love throwing a kaera frog on it.  My accuracy is too low with the way the rod doesn't fully load.  This year I threw it on the MC Days 360 6'6MH and loved it.  It's also my new favorite 1/2oz jig rod.  My problem was I spent more time with a jig on it, but plan to flip the ratio next year.

then the head turner is the rod you want. I fish the expert version for what youre talking. Also a great bladed bait and walking bait rod. 

If budget is not an problem why not get a custom rod built?

That’s my issue with the kaera frog too. I use the 7’3 XH Expride B to launch heavier frogs into the back of pad and slop fields. Most bites come from the end-middle of the retrieve from what I’ve noticed. I think the Daemos will have to be the one for my buzzbaits. Usually buzzbaits through tighter spaces with sparser grass.

 

Thinking 20lb sniper fluoro since buzzbaits are constantly moving anyways. That’s what I’m running with my chatterbaits too esp since we have a lot of pesky zebra mussels up here that fray up the line. Would consider 40lb braid to a 16lb fluoro leader if I absolutely wanted the braid setup instead.

At that price point, and looking for something to fit a specific technique/preference, I also suggest talking to a custom rod builder before you pull the trigger on anything.

fluoro and a buzzbait or frog is not necessary. All of the line handling issues plus it sinks. If you want non braided line, big mono is the right answer. Lower stretch than thinner stuff, plenty of abrasion resistance. 17 big game or equivalent is about right.

Daiwa has released there next Gen blx rods.  They have a 6'3 and a 6'5 frog rod.   I have the blx SC 69mh coming

Wouldn’t ever use fluoro for a frog. Only straight braid. I meant to say fluoro for the buzzbait since I’m already running 20lb for my chatterbaits on the Daemos. Appreciate the advice!

I just saw that too. Need to jump on the teckel train. Their topwaters are pricey but look 👌🏼in the water. I’m sure their rods will be meticulously designed for topwaters too.
