Custom/Alternative Roadrunner underspins

Featured Replies

Hello, wasn't sure if this is the right place to ask, does anyone know any good custom roadrunner/pony head underspins?  I've been using roadrunners for awhile and have really been doing well recently using small swimbaits with them. But I was wanting to try nicer versions. Stouter hooks or less over spray on the spinner part. I've seen a few on Etsy but wasn't sure if Etsy was the only place to find them. Thanks for any info. Also, I've tried the finspins you can get at academy but I never have any luck with them.

Does it have to be the horse head?  The Berkeley fusion underspins have good heavy hooks, a head design that runs smoothly and straight, and a blade that clears the bait well.

It doesn't need to be horse head, just needs to be small like the roadrunners. I use mostly 1/16th and 1/8th ounce. I'll check out the fusions, thanks for the suggestions

The Berkley's are real nice.  I've been happy with Northland Tackle Underspin, lot's of hook/weight sizes and a good thin wire gammy.  Doesn't have a dropper arm though.  Currently on sale at TW for another day or two.

the Berkeley only go down to 1/4 so that probably won’t work then.

Go to Tackle Warhouse-Terminal tackle- jigs- underspins; over 80 to chose from!

History, George Kramer started writing articles on Blackmore Roadrunner crappie jigs for finesse bass fishing in SoCal late 70’s. The 1st popular bass under spin was Swarming Hornet Fish Head under spin.

Aaron Martens had Blakemore make a “Pro” under spin horse head design and the lures took off across the country now more choices then could be imagined.

I use the Owner and VMC flashy swimmer models and I have a bunch of fish hornets & gambler models I found on clearance.

If you want to use an underspin and go weedless... and save money and have flexibility, just get some swivels and split rings and blades of your choice. Slide it over the barb on the hook and you have a weedless underspin. You may lose a few but all the components are cheap. Gives off the same action imo and I use an EWG hook so it does not get in the way of a hookset.

Can also use any size hook, guage and style and weight.....I like using a hammered Colorado or Indiana blade in gold or black which is hard to find on under spins.
