Looking for recommendations

Featured Replies

I’m looking at a couple of casting rods. A Dobyns KD713C or Cashion Element EW7 MHF. I found the Dobyns on sale. Both rods are like 5 dollars difference in price.
I’m looking to use the rod with a unweighted/ weighted Texas rig. Using a 4-5” senko. I’ll be bank fishing mainly rivers maybe some lakes.
Any recommendations on which rod might be better fit for the mentioned use?

Never used Cashion rods but I like Dobyns. The 713c Kaden would be good for unweighted senkos but if you are throwing over a 1/4oz bullet weight on it, you might wanna step up to a 714c. Dobyns casting rods fish a power lower than what they say, so a 713c is actually a medium power casting rod and a 714c is a medium heavy

Like @PBBrandon I don't have any experience with Cashion rods but want to add a 2nd nod toward a 4 power dobyns.  They have a real forgiving tip that allows for precise casting toward the bottom of their stated weight range.

Get both in your hands and see which feels better, has better balance, ergonomics.

Send the other rod back.

Or keep them both : )

You may not be able to cast 4” & 5” unweighted Senko with MHF casting rods with either brand referenced. Suggest looking at MF casting casting rods.

I think the Kaden has more of an XF tip too which will not help casting

I agree with @WRB and @GReb on this one. I had a Kaden 714c and it had a pretty fast tip and might be a little heavy for a weightless Senko, but my 733c Fury threw a weightless Senko pretty nicely.

In my opinion, the 713c Kaden should be decent with a weightless Senko. I don't have any experience with the Cashion rods though.

I used my Kaden 714c for weighted Texas rigs with weights around 1/4 - 3/8. I also had a Kaden 744 that I used for jigs. Ended up trading both off and picking up a couple clean used Kistler Helium rods to replace them

No first hand experience with those particular rods, but my Dobyns Fury has rapidly become my favorite freshwater rod. Buying another one today, actually.

Would have to politely disagree on the comment about stepping up to the KD714. I bought that rod for 1/4oz texas rigs and it was a broomstick to me. I returned it on the way home from the lake. If the OP wants a Kaden, I'd still stick with the 713 personally. It's all personal preference though. The Kadens are simply faster rods than the other models. I'd also recommend a Sierra 734. I like them more than the Kaden personally.
