Harold H Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Notice how many fish were snagged in this last bassmaster tourney that Palaniuk won. Scent would make them commit to the bait better than just swiping at it, imo. Figure it's leaving a trail in the water for them to hone in on. Turns followers into swallowers 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted March 8 Super User Posted March 8 I use that scent that comes in a stick form. I think it’s the Old Spice Kracken. Smelly Jelly Crayfish works better. Quote

Smokinal Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Could't agree more Glenn. I use scent during a tournament or if the bite is tough. I do think it helps a fish to hold the bait a hair longer, giving me that split second longer to set a hook. An aggressive reaction bite does not require a scent imo. fwiw...ymmv 1 Quote
Harold H Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Here's a good article from the In-Fisherman that talks about scent https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/scent-for-bass-does-it-matter/154644 1 Quote
Harold H Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I finally figure out how to post pics, here's a few fish I caught on cut bluegill with Pro Cure Shad gel smeared on. A fat channel cat, a deformed bass, and a 4 lb bullhead. All within a few days in less than 50 degree water. Did the Pro Cure make difference?? Who knows, but I'm not taking any chances 1 Quote

TriStateBassin106 Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Using scent in bass fishing really is a mental game for anglers. Some swear by it and others don't, nobody really knows for sure if it can make a great difference or any difference at all. I tried using bang garlic a few years ago and it leaked in my fishing bag and it probably took me 3 months to get the smell out. Never again! 1 Quote
Fairly Reliable Posted March 13 Author Posted March 13 Back in the 70s I read where Anise oil was the "key" to catching fish. After searching through the yellow pages I found a bottle at the local drug store. Mission accomplished. I coated my (Rubber worms) a 70s term, and I coated a light coat on my hard lures and spinner bait skirts. Man it smelled great! Closed the lid on my tackle box and I was set. The weekend came and I went fishing. I opened the lid of my tackle box and my worms were melting, my spinner bait skirts were melted and stuck together, my hard baits were melting to the bottom of my tackle box. It even melted the trays of my tackle box. I knew right then it must be the wrong formula of anise oil. Quote
