I also think Kyle would be catching these fish with or without the scope.  He's just targeting them more efficiently.     The deal is the location and the amount of big fish spawning, not scoping.

Aint no way he'd put up these numbers without scope. That water is too stained to see these fish without scope and there's too much cover to effectively fish every stump you mark on sidescan. I've yet to see him make a cast that wasn't at a fish he saw on live. Fothergill is doing the same thing in an entirely different area. Don't get me wrong, I love Welcher, but it's not fair to criticize the 20 somethings winning with scope and then applaud the 31 year old doing the same thing.

  • It is TOUGH listening to Powroznik's live coverage. Dude sounds like Darth Vader. Might be time to lay off the twinkies and go for a run once in a while, man.

We could argue all day whether or not he'd still be hammering them, but at the end of the day Welcher isn't known as a scoper and one trick pony.     That's the difference.

It's a moot point at this point anyway, Kyle is blowing out the wiz kids.

Kyle up by 20 pounds? That’s insane! Trey is still better than the rest of the field though and my personal favorite..

Yea yea yea, I’m a power fisherman but I love the kid.. wonder what Kyle is catching them on?

He's using a Bronco Bug one of the times I saw him. Not sure if that's only it so far.

I do too. I enjoyed a couple evenings last year when the Bronco Bug was THE lure they wanted. At one point, I caught five open water bass in five casts with the Bronco Bug.

I need to go look at Omnia, last thing I ordered from them was Geecrack bellows shad.. 2 sizes, I wanted to try a pack of the elaz type material and see how it works..

Been there, did that too!

Welcher is made for these types of events. No surprise he’s whacking them

Black and blue Bronco Bug w/ 1/4 ounce pegged weight. He's finding spawners in 4-6 ft with scope and flipping to em.

I watched a little this morning. Kyle is on spawners and he was sight fishing.

Sight fishing with his scope from everything I've seen.

My sample size was 20 minutes but in the time I saw him he was working a bass that he was looking right at and was pointing to it with his rod tip.

But the whole scopers versus non scopers debate is tiresome and useless

Yep, honestly it is and the tech is cool, I’m old school of course but given enough time everything changes..

So be it.

He’s obviously using the scope, they all do. I don’t know why people think that’s gonna change.

Wasn't trying to make it a scopers vs non-scopers debate. At this point, everyone on the elites but John Cox is a scoper to some extent. I tuned in around 9:30 and watched a few hours worth. I saw him catch 4 fish in that time and cast at a few others. Everything I saw was on scope. I guess they must've had some sun early when you were watching, because it was too cloudy to sight fish in that colored water by the time I turned it on.

Yup. Everyone is using it to at least augment what they are doing. And there are so many nuances and patterns to identify that it obviously isn’t some sort of cheat code; some are far better than others with it.

FFS is unstoppable. Once they figured out how to use it shallow there was nothing the non scoper crowd could do to compete.

Except learn it & learn it well. But even then, some of these guys have been touring pros for a long time and the fact that a lot of people don’t say is the age factor. In the 80’s I could literally do a 12 hour day on Orange-Lochloosa, but 10 years later I was struggling w 6.. it’s just another fact of life, age, injuries, lifestyle etc. Not trying to preach or anything but I just think it’s also a factor with some of the pros trying to make fishing an actual career.

Time on the water has always been the #1 factor in what makes someone a good angler. Some guys have dedicated their time on the water to learning FFS and some have not. They all have the same number of hours in a day and can only blame themselves if they don't spend them correctly.

I've had Livescope for a year, but I haven't had the time to learn it. I can catch a few fish with it, but I get dominated by anyone who's dedicated a decent amount of time to it. That's why I haven't "gone scoping" in either derby I've fished this year.

That's what irks me about people complaining about FFS. It's not like the OG's don't have the same opportunity to learn it. Heck, we saw Hackney do well with it on St John's. If anything, they likely had access to the tech as sponsored pros before any of these 20 somethings people like to complain about.

I believe Dunkin and MDJ have both joked about having it through their Garmin deal a year or two before it became popular and didn’t even put it on the boat. But if I remember right it was moreso marketed towards more of panfish/crappie market at first.
