Spare prop - Solas?

Featured Replies

The prop on my Mercury 75 4-stroke is a little dinged up (nothing major).  I already had it repaired once and am thinking of getting a spare prop.  I noticed Solas are a bit less expensive than Mercury props.  Are they decent quality?

That’s what I just put on my 9.9. Time will tell how it lasts, but it’s hard to beat it for the price.  If you just want it as the space then just do it.

I have one of their stainless steel props on my Merc 25 and it works better than the original aluminim prop.  Doesn't cavitate in tight turns.  Take a chance.  If you're satisfied with the performance of your boat get the same pitch.  It's marked either on the barrel or under the nut.

I have a Solas 19p (forget which exact model) on a Merc 4S 200HP v6 and it performs well, as good if not better than the Tempest plus 19p. I wouldn’t hesitate to get another Solas.

Retire the repaired prop for a back up and get the new SST prop,

Tom

40 hp Mercury 4 stroke, replace prop with Solas the same size I took off.  All I can really say, it works for me.  :occasion14:

If you want to save money, check with your prop repair guy. They often have used, rebuilt props they sell.

I’ve bought solas props, never had an issue. I’ve also did like

@Scott F, bought used from the prop repair shop. I kept, nut, washer and pin in a plastic peanut butter jar too. I know stainless steel props will give ya better performance, but use the aluminum ones. I like it being the weak link to the motor, I’d rather sacrifice a prop than anything other part of the drive line on the motor.

I use Solas on my 60 Merc and have no complaints.
