Why do you hate bed fishing?

@gim my comment wasn’t directed at you.  I was speaking in general to those who don’t think it’s ethical.

My apologies for the misunderstanding.

Cuz they don’t bite and I think I’ve seen 2-3 of them in my lifetime. I’d probably love it if it ever worked

  • I think @Pat Brown has an important point - If you are catching fish shallow during the spring time, you are very likely catching some bed fish whether you like it or not.   I will definitel

If I see a big fish spawning or on a bed, I may make a cast at it, or a I may not. I never specifically target bedding fish. Just not interested. Something in my brain/gut usually tells me “let em do

I don't go looking for bedding fish, but when I find them I do make some casts.  I may catch 2 or 3 or 4, but then the bite will stop.  Once the bass realize what is moving across their territory is not a living thing they leave it alone.

@Pat Brown, I admit your remarks about bass 'spawning all the time' (my words...but something sort of like that) had me a little skeptical.  No more.  I caught at least 3 clearly pre-spawn females this week (same relative area), as well as a couple bucks with battered tails.   Surface temps 84 yesterday.

Yeah pretty much when folks say 'now that we're in the post spawn' my eyes glaze over and the hamster on the tread mill inside my brain takes a nap.

It's pretty much silly.

Our water is very clear and I can clearly see them on beds.

Everyone is different in their thinking, respect.

I prefer to target them prespawn and let them do their thing during spawn without interrupting.

I do fish during spawn but avoid deliberately casting to beds.
